DOGE's use of ChatGPT to terminate 97% of NEH grants (including ours) continues to make headlines this week.

it's all just art. "porn" is just art that makes you horny, in precisely the way that "horror" is art that makes you scared and "metroidvania" is art that makes you write video essays

Excellent piece from Kelly Boudreau, @miac.bsky.social & Andrew Phelps made me feel better about my own inability to provide a concise/precise def of 'cozy games,' going straight into the syllabus as a way to talk about both embodied gaming & genre. scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/items/a39f35...

Instrumental soul / funk with all the best session players from Daptone Records. Need I say more? Also, listen to the 2016 album because it’s perfect.

It makes me furious that there is no way to force them to listen. AI crawlers have forced a future in which much of the information about the present is gated & the near past will disappear. All they need do is respect the rights and requests of people and orgs who produce news. They won't do that.
AI will not just rob the past and the present, without some way to limit access and be sure these systems will listen to instructions our first draft of history will disappear from the internet as archive-blocking media link-rots & sometimes dies totally. All that important context will be lost.
This sucks, and it gets even worse. I've noticed at least one site has employed a paywall process that even prevents paying subscribers from employing IA-style WARC creation from saving the site, with a script that reapplies the paywall in the WARC context. www.niemanlab.org/2026/01/news...

Not a great look, since that part of the military is currently bearing the brunt of the administration’s domestic deployments and has 3 dead in the last 3 weeks (DC and Syria)
I understand anthropic sees this as a win but I laughed at “ It ordered a live fish. It offered to buy stun guns, pepper spray, cigarettes and underwear.
Profits collapsed. Newsroom morale soared”

You’re still trying to find the millennial Tom Hanks. I told you we can’t do it, and we can’t do it. Now, what we might be able to do it is recreate him. Recreate him but make him British.
