The aggravating thing about the ebikes on trails discussion is that in California and elsewhere, a "trail" is often the only safe route for bikes.

Here in SD the only 2 options for getting the short distance crosstown to the coast is literally a walk/bike trail or on a 50+ mph high with cars.

Kid-sized furniture in transit stations! We really do love to see it.

My understanding is that IRL birds are actually impossible to potty train. My chicken raising experience also says that they poop a lot, wherever they happen to be.

I am attending this meeting and will live-whatever-this-is (seriously, did we come up with a name for posts here?). I live down the street and I will be disappointed if we end up with more parking and 3-4 stories. I want a big tower!

People always love to respond to bike advocates with a list of things bikes can't do and I just wish they'd open their minds to the many things bikes can do

A cement mixer might seem like a great daily driver, but you'll wish you'd gone for an ultra-class haul truck when you find yourself needing to move 400 tons of ore!

An e-bike seems like a good way to pick up the kids from school or get groceries. But what happens when you need to haul 11 yards of wet concrete? That's when you'll realize you should have been doing your errands with a Kenworth T880 semi with a McNeilus mixer drum

"Regardless of the method, online ID checks mean people’s social media activity would be linked to their identity... Human rights activists have warned for years that online age verification mandates are a gift to dictators and a danger to journalists and dissidents."

The solution to e-bike/pedestrian conflicts is to build better infrastructure that will allow for separation between cyclists and walkers

A Nissan Sentra weighs a little more than 3,000 pounds (I picked a small, common car)

An Aventon Level 3 E-bike weighs 67 pounds (plus rider weight)

These things do not pose remotely the same risk when traveling at 28 mph. I am begging people to understand basic physics.

People keep saying these laws are unconstitutional, which, first, have you met the current SCOTUS?

But second: Censorship is rarely about securing an actual conviction. It's about the harassment. It's about chilling speech. For most, it's not worth the hassle.

Easier just to cover up or shut up.

"Trans children have such awful lives, isn't it better for them to not suffer?"

Transness is actually really awesome. It's the transphobia that sucks. If everyone responded to trans kids coming out with "thanks for telling me, I love you" and being affirming, trans kids would have GREAT childhoods.

in a number of red states, the state lege has passed laws making it impossible for cities to have non-discrimination protections. it’s WILD. these are their own cities! where the vast majority of their constituents live!!

Despite what the legislator is claiming, this isn't theoretical. Louisiana cops cited this woman for "indecent" exposure for wearing a crop top.

Even with a dismissal, that's legal fees, sleepless nights and public shame.

Harassment is meant to send a message.

And then when the good grades stop it's not "What do you need?" instead it's "Why are you being lazy and not living up to your potential?"

online ID checks “would aggravate the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Chiles v. Salazar, which makes it even easier for unaccepting parents to force LGBTQ+ kids to deny themselves while walling them off from support.”

When you're not in a car you're keenly aware of every time your life is endangered by a driver. When you're behind the wheel, these close calls rarely, if ever, register. Thinking of a dangerously close pass yesterday that I'm sure the driver didn't even notice. But it could have quickly gone badly.

In that case yeah, probably get a cast-in-concrete type rack, call digsafe, make a hole, and set it in the ground with the fast setting fence post type concrete.
