I just understood you buy x amount of copies off them but not having used one, I don't actually know. I have the familiar feeling of having enthusiastically entered a conversation to find myself utterly bereft of facts.

That's fairly standard vanity publishing isn't it? You pay to have x amount of books printed.

Just to be clear, it's OK to call my daughter a piece of ass - if you want a punch on the nose.

I must see that.

Trying to compliment my friend on his new car. Think I may have exposed lack of up to date knowledge. 'Horseless! Nice!'

Why don't you think it needs defending, debating or explaining?

Don't even need that. Assigned already in past tense. You can drop the auxiliaries entirely. Standard in newspaper headlines.

I'm a working class man with a direct manner. Luckily I'm not also a sex-obsessed wanker.

Guarantee Trump won't be on it. Are you going to name the guy who could pardon you?

Who is your favourite Queen singer? For me it's Adam Lambert first, Freddy 2, Paul Rogers 3. Very close between Adam and Fred but Adam better singer and just edges it on performance. Other bands who got better when they replaced singer? Iron Maiden wrong answer.

They are hardly unique. See Farage's ongoing popularity etc. I'd prefer to see an IQ test.

I think he's a great drummer. Maybe not the best (in The Beatles) but still a master of feel and genuine invention. It's one thing to go Keith Moon on the case and flash out, it's another to do Ticket to Ride - inventive, catchy but also subtle.

Ringo is the best example of a drummer giving a song exactly what it needs! Allow the drummer to sing and play at the same time and you risk Phil Collins, which is a condition, not a person.

Young men seem gripped by so many anxieties about their masculinity that they actually undermine it. Is it manly to spend hours primping your biceps?Relax, laugh at yourself, do something more useful with your time. Your muscles reveal you as a trembling little boy.

I have noticed how even liberal American intellectuals subscribe to a tough guy narrative. Just warning you, as a Brit, fucking with me will make me go: 'Ooooh! Well someone got out of bed the wrong side this morning !'
I'm 60 and look terrible, btw. I would go to a gym but I can't be bothered.

Back in London 20 years after I lived there a week ago. Traffic levels do seem to have declined from what I remember- fewer jams, even at rush hour.

it is really weird that publishing decided that instead of having a marketing budget, writers should just become cult leaders

I watched it late for the reasons you state. Ep 1 all about McNulty and thought it was just another hard man cop show. Glad I eventually got past it.

Take it The Wire wasn't for you either?

I do know what you mean and agree broadly. The Sopranos is an antidote to that and never lets the audience be comfortable. It sucks you in to being sympathetic to Tony but then smashes you with the reality of who he is. It's far from a celebration of hard men, though it is sometimes that too.

I would recommend it. Human vanity exposed. Everything- from the dialogue to the music is brilliant- Cecillia Bartolli's singing is incredible. Employee of the Month is the reverse - if someone can hold to morality in the face of huge temptation. The audience wants capitulation and revenge.

Sopranos was a masterclass of storytelling. Employee of the Month had one of the most engaging, emotional and thoughtful storylines I've seen. Denouement shocking and understated. Pine Barrens - as comic characters Paulie and Christopher are up there with literature and TV's best.
