The various special pinups that feature Deacon hanging out with the Herrons, as opposed to spying on them, all take place sometime in the future. Before he can become part of the gang, his storyline has to move forward a bit more.
Don't worry - the only reason I didn't include all his different interactions with the Herrons is that there wasn't enough room. Vera is probably pretty far down the list of girls he would realistically go for xD
