if you use a third party app (so not the native file explorer app) for managing folders (I don't think you do), it should be under the settings in display or advanced I think!!

have you opened on your pc? wonder if you can open your phone in window file explorer, right click and go to properties, i believe under settings there's an option to show hidden folders. that's on pc though.

what phone do you have?

is there an option to edit the folder and hidden files specifically? it may be in OS app settings (app manager), or in the file manager settings (actually app itself). the file is hidden usually.

I don't know a lot about phone tech so I didn't want to try and help, but you found the piece I think! I was able to Google it really easily and find Reddit posts. :)

looks like it's a weird file that prevents some apps from scanning your photos/files. so the file might be why you are able to see them.. I'm not sure how to manage it otherwise. people on Reddit say you can delete it, but if not, rename to without the period and then try deleting it.
