An 8x10” watercolor painting of two men walking on a sandy beach.

An 8x10” watercolor painting of two men walking on a sandy beach.

A sweet little painting for you all today. It’s called “Compare and Contrast” and measures in at 8x10”. It was supposed to be a quick two-hour painting, but the skin tones and shadows demanded additional attention.

They’re just so beautiful. One of the things I miss about CA

That is a wild statement to read next to a drawing by one the most revered and influential creators of the last century. One whose iconic works include thousands of pages of manga that became an anime from which almost every scene has an image more famous than this drawing.

But yeah; me too! Lol

“Dream in Jade” focuses on contrasts: the red-orange of the figure’s skin vs the blue-green of the pool, the brights lights against dark shadows, and the seductive yet wearily distracted expression of the subject.

Really love the smoothness of the light accompanying the smoothness of the skin.

This is 100% true; however, mocking potential allies is not a great way to build a coalition of the size that will be needed to end this slide into totalitarianism.

This is perhaps my favorite yet. The colors are so rich, and the textures…!

I’ve had similar experiences as a painter, and also questioned continuing. It’s not a pleasant situation, and is especially tough when money is tight and I’m reluctant to pass on a gig. But one learns how to set boundaries and navigate the unserious people in the world.

Thx I seem to remember my Schminke set also being on sale at Wet Paint in St Paul, MN, way back when.

It took me years of painting … and I mean YEARS … before I felt confident with watercolor. You’re off to a great start. Take time to appreciate your own incremental progress, however slow it feels.
