I haven’t thought about that guy in decades! Man, the blogosphere was a TIME…

There are two things going on here. One is "Well, I still like his music and I can separate it from the man"—which, fine!—and the other is this: a top-down profit-seeking effort to make you feel a certain way and forget certain things. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/m...

The Onion says it has struck a deal to take over Infowars The move would allow the satire site to turn Alex Jones' conspiracist creation into a parody of itself.

After years of legal action, the Onion says it has reached an agreement with a bankruptcy receiver to license the Infowars site.

Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.

The broader cultural discovery during the strikes that 90% of entertainment industry workers are making less than you think doesn’t seem to have filtered into Mamdani-nepo narratives, where there’s still the assumption that being mentioned adjacent to celebrities means you’re a billionaire.

It may be an overstatement to say Pavement were the Beatles of their generation, but they kinda were. What the Beatles were to ’60s pop, Pavement were to ’90s indie rock—the definitive, pace-setting act of the decade who underwent surprising and substantial evolutions in a tidy 10-year lifespan.

If Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain was a Rubber Soul/Revolver-style step toward sophistication, and Brighten the Corners a late-game Abbey Road-esque consolidation of strengths, Pavement's 1999 album Terror Twilight was the parallel of Let It Be: a loose, live-off-the-floor affair that, produced, became the finely chiseled tombstone to a brilliant career.

No they weren't. That isn't true.

Very excited my interview with theeeee legend Sally Field will be featured on the Criterion disc for HUD. She’s one of the last living people to have worked and been close with Martin Ritt and she had some great stories!

I just saw somewhere something calling Joy Division's "Ceremony" a cover of a New Order song so officially the internet is fired and can come back when responsible humans are in charge

No one will believe me, but I had never seen a single frame of Charles in Charge or heard the song before just now. It seems obviously intentional. The only thing that’s giving me pause: I was a kid in the 1980s and there were so many slang terms for sex deployed cluelessly on TV and in film.

This is my salient point, I think. There’s a difference between ā€œI don’t think it should ever be done that wayā€ and ā€œI don’t want some rando who emailed my agent being the one to try it.ā€ The first one’s fine too, but I think the second one’s important for people to understand.

I know the iron law of the internet is ā€œPeople I don’t like should be incredibly permissive about whatever someone wants to do with their play, but people who agree with me must be deferred to, always,ā€ but there’s a principle here (it’s the author’s play) that I agree with.

Actors have been wanting to cast the play this way forever, because they’re great roles, but I get why he’s turned down ad hoc and amateur requests. Perfectly reasonable IMO to wait for a major production where the writer is highly involved to try out a new interpretation.

Trump lured the Iranians to the bargaining table under false pretenses, telling them their 10 point plan would be the basis for negotiation only to try to impose his own wishlist as the basis. Then he violated the ceasefire with a blockade, itself an act of war. Nobody will ever trust us again.
