I've been recently asked to do some private consulting for an NGO on an ecological monitoring program they are implementing and they want to pay me to help them. I have no idea how much to charge for this type of service. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing that could offer advice?
Excited to have my talk on predictors of avian breeding occurrence in Ontario's cities accepted for this year's @csee-scee.bsky.social CSEE conference! Hope to see many of you there!
There's the CSEE conference in Sherbrooke in July and the SCO-SOC conference in August in Saskatoon!
Examples of urban bird activities perceived as ecosystem services or disservices. (a) The spread of seeds through feces can sustain native plant communities but also spread invasive species and result in an unsightly mess. (b) Consuming arthropods can help with pest control, thereby qualifying as a service, but this could be a disservice if birds eat beneficial insects. (c) Scavenging can assist with removal of carcasses that may act as disease reservoirs, yet scavengers are often perceived as unclean. (d) Birdsong is positively associated with joy, connection to nature, and a sense of place and seasons, but songs and calls—if loud or heard at night—can also annoy urban dwellers

Anyone know if ornithologists are tracking birds that are expanding their range by putting geolocators on birds at the range edge? I'm wondering if there's documentation of "pioneers" expanding into new ranges
