For Trump, Emergency Cash from Congress Means Approval for More War Trump’s war on Iran is illegal. Congress hasn’t authorized it; administration officials...

As Republicans and some Democrats prepare to vote for weapons funding that could be viewed by Trump as a kind of backdoor war authorization, documents prepared by the Pentagon, sent to Congress and reviewed by TPM suggest the DoD already has the money it needs.

U.S. Plan to Unblock Strait of Hormuz Collides With Realities of Global Insurance The U.S.-centric insurance idea runs counter to the realities of an international market, according to industry executives.

President Trump’s plan to sell insurance for ships in the Gulf, a way of easing the war-induced crunch in oil supplies, is proving easier said than done.

I'd support @talkingpointsmemo.com for the Editors' Blog alone, but seeing TPM grow a team of excellent journalists is really exciting. They're producing some great reporting, writing, and podcasts. If you're looking for an independent news and analysis outlet to back, TPM should be on your list.

A long time ago, I used to know a lot about foreign-imposed regime change (FIRC) and study them.

I guess that makes me qualified to write a thread about them, especially in wake of Trump bombing Iran.

So here goes nothing. 🧵

Judge Orders Hearings for Immigration Detainees and Condemns ‘Terror Against Noncitizens’ As tensions mount between the Trump administration and the courts, the judge called “shameless” a claim by officials that her earlier order was not binding.

In a fiery ruling that accused the government of failing to follow court orders, a federal judge ordered the Department of Homeland Security to notify thousands of immigrants detained nationwide that they can join a lawsuit against the government and get either a hearing or be immediately released.

Let me tell you a tale of how completely the normies have been mobilized. My 14 year-old niece has done School of Rock for the past 5 years; last summer she was part of their touring band, and the kids loved playing together so much that they decided to keep doing it. (1/?)

This is why Dems embracing bipartisanship and refusing to attack the Republican Party brand is such political MALPRACTICE.

Voters mostly vote on party brand, what it stands for.
One side deciding to abdicate fights over party brand is a recipe for losing.

"The Massachusetts Department of Correction... formally partners with ICE to transfer people who have finished their sentences."
Healey's office has also not responded to my calls about this (and why would they) BUT maybe if a lot more of us call and keep calling, they'll get the drift. 617-725-4005

Any collaboration with an agency that is systematically violating civil rights and brutalizing people is wrong and Maura Healey’s defense of this program is shameful.

More to come on this; the rule makes a number of other changes to the Board of Immigration Appeals process (such that it will exist should this rule go into effect in 30 days without a court order blocking it). But top line; it's quite bad! public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-02326.pdf

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Executive Office for Immigration Review 8 CFR Parts 1003, 1208, and 1240 [Docket No. EOIR-26-AB37; Dir. Order No. 02-2026] RIN 1125-AB37 Appellate Procedures for the Board of Immigration Appeals AGENCY: Executive Office for Immigration Review (“EOIR”), Department of Justice. ACTION: Interim final rule; request for comments. SUMMARY: This interim final rule (“IFR”) amends Department of Justice (“Department” or “DOJ”) regulations to streamline administrative appellate review by the Board of Immigration Appeals (“Board” or “BIA”) of decisions by Immigration Judges by making review of such decisions on the merits discretionary, by setting appropriate times for briefing in cases that are reviewed on the merits, and by streamlining other aspects of the appellate process to ensure timely adjudications and avoid adding to the already sizeable backlog at the Board. Additionally, the Department is making various technical and non-substantive changes to its regulations. DATES: Effective date: This IFR is effective [INSERT DATE 30 DAYS AFTER PUBLICATION IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER]

The appeal to the federal circuit court ALSO costs $600. So now anyone who loses in immigration has to pay $1,000 to be automatically denied in nearly every case, and then $600 to seek an emergency stay of their imminent deportation.

AND THIS APPLIES EVEN TO PEOPLE IN DETENTION.

2 months ago 764 210 5 4

The goal is clear; mass deportations over due process.

An order of removal does not become "final" until the Board of Immigration Appeals denies an appeal. After that, ICE can deport the person unless they file ANOTHER appeal to a federal circuit court AND get an emergency stay.

The IFR will also change the deadline for filing an appeal with the Board from 30 to 10 days, except for cases involving certain asylum applications, as discussed in more detail in Section IV.B of this preamble. And, as explained in Sections IV.C and D of this preamble, the IFR adopts other measures previously adopted by the 2020 Appellate Procedures Final Rule, which were never fully operationalized, to streamline the processes for obtaining the parties’ briefs and assembling the record on appeal.

The Trump admin is ALSO changing the rules so that rather than 30 days to file a Notice of Appeal, people will now only have 10 days (in most cases).

That's just 10 days to find $1,000 and appellate counsel for an appeal the government says it will likely automatically deny!

Thus, rather than require such adjudications, the Department is changing its regulations to provide the Board more flexibility in reviewing appeals. Instead, for appeals taken from decisions issued after this IF becomes effective, as explained in
Section IV.A of this preamble, the default will be summary dismissal unless a majority of current Board members vote to consider the appeal on the merits. And such dismissals
will occur quickly—within 15 days of filing the appeal—allowing aliens to seek Federal court review expeditiously, rather than potentially waiting for years for a Board decision that in the vast majority of cases would affirm the underlying Immigration Judge
decision.

🚨HOLY CRAP. The Trump admin just took a SLEDGEHAMMER to due process, largely eliminating the Board of Immigration Appeals process and MANDATING DISMISSAL of ALL appeals (which cost $1,000 thanks to OBBBA) filed after tomorrow unless a majority of the BIA votes to hear the case.

The Left Needs Bureaucrats - Dissent Magazine After MAGA, the left will need to be ready with a theory of how to rebuild the federal administrative state—not as it was before Trump, but as something better.

Good piece that gets at an often underdiscussed issue -- of how much work in rebuilding state capacity (or denazification of remaining state capacity) will be necessary post-Trump

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

This is not a rational person. And this is deeply disturbing coming from an American President. NATO is not our enemy—they are unequivocally our closest friends and allies.

At this point, how can you not call into question the mental fitness of this President?

Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.

They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.

Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this
