Split screen on the news. Guy on the left is exactly in line with the jacket of the guy on the right.
I like how this guy’s jacket changes colour when he goes through the news portal

My brother was in the audience for that one! They did a big 'Ooooooooh!' when the rude word came out, and I'm convinced I can hear him
Madeline Smith looking decidedly unimpressed by Ian Anderson's flute.
Looking forward to the scene where he discovers the chemical that makes it taste like vomit
Sorry to hear Asha Bhosle has died - here's a superb special she did for Indian TV with then-husband and genius soundtrack composer RD Burman, which appears to show they were the Bollywood Bruce Forsyth and Anthea Redfern:

This is an absolutely belting pop song, and not even a po-faced "look at us aren't we superior taking the piss out of this bit of pleb culture" cover version by The Kings Singers can spoil it's joy.-
The PROPER Oasis!
Herbie Flowers plays bass on the Alcock And Gander theme - he's the missing link between Lou Reed and Beryl Reid!
I'd love to hear them! Apparently everyone else submitted Italian style music, and they went for the one that sounded a bit different. I mean, it's a belting sitcom theme in fairness, Nick Ingman was spot on!
This book, Sophisticated Harmony by Oliver Lomax, is superb for all your Hazlehurst goss by the way, and lots about other interesting musical chaps too:

Ronnie Hazlehurst was appalled at the choice of theme music for this - he was at the auditions where various composers' submissions were played, and said 'There was so much beautiful music played in that room....'
I assume they skipped the first series as it was b&w?
Vina Del Mar by Lado's Latin Combination

I wonder if it's the same roulette wheel they used in the TOTU title sequence?
There's a little bit of Peter in action on Gambit - 15'29" here: youtu.be/De2Fz4YB8s4?...
40 YEARS AGO TODAY
He replaced Derek Jameson as host of a show called People at around the same time, there seems to have been a real effort to try and make him into a presenter then
The show is wiped, but Rupie's appearance still exists somewhere, apparently - it may be part of the large collection of taped-off-the-telly clips that exists from around this time, I'll see if I can find out more
Oh yes, can't believe I forgot that! He did it first (and probably best!) Ackland took over after he died, then Richard Briers for a bit too.
I wonder if Joss Ackland did the voice on this? (The Paul Merton-voiced Fred is NOT CANON)
There are seven different variants of Dance Yourself Dizzy, so pretty much, yeah
I have the 3CD Liquid Gold Complete Recordings set, your mum was not wrong
The Tansley School kids covered Grandma on their album, and which also had songs called Uncles And Aunts, My Two Cousins, and What Would We Do Without Dad - Gordon Lorenz seeing how far he could stretch the concept before it snapped
Some sad news to report, I'm afraid... Jeff Grant, the director of legendary public information film Lonely Water, died on 13 March. He fought to include the film's horror elements, and they proved so successful that it opened the door to the shocking PIFs that we know and love. (1/2)
There is surely a story somewhere about how ANY of this was allowed, and I'll find it out one day.

40 YEARS AGO TODAY: maybe the reason this isn't part of the televisual April Fools canon is Channel 4's big idea happened at closedown, not just after the traditional midday cut-off - after all, all of those above were too - but technically on the 2nd.
That's Miranda Pollard off of Crossroads!
Yes, they were a series of albums of cover versions of chart hits performed by uncredited session musicians - no connection to the TV series, Hallmark used the name and the BBC couldn't do anything about it!
It was Tony Rivers who was not-Freddie on what's generally regarded as the Top Of The Pops LPs finest achievement, the cover of Bohemian Rhapsody (and when they needed a Little Jimmy Osmond soundalike, he got his son to take a day off school to come to the studio)
