I remember during the height of violence in Syria, there was so much disgust for westerners who came in to deny the crimes and shill for Assad and Russia - westerners who had built their credibility on Palestine allyship. Now we’re seeing the reverse happen. We have come full circle.

What exactly is "rare" about Israeli airstrikes or military assaults on Palestinian religious institutions?
It’s past 2 am and my family and I are gathered in front of the TV in Beirut, bearing witness in horror to Israel’s crimes. Crimes us southerners know well, but the scale is still beyond believe. Babies in their little pjs. Survivors who have lost everyone. Exhausted journalists and doctors. #Gaza

Truly, if it’s one thing I love about this city, it’s the haven it has often provided to journalists and activists from Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq etc. despite all its harshness. Freedom of expression here must be protected. #Beirut
Jean Kassir of Megaphone News talks about freedom of expression in context of Beirut having offered safe space for liberation movements regionally, from Syria to Yemen. A space that must be protected. Lebanon clamping down on expression isn’t just dangerous for us but for region

The march gathers at the Fire Brigade. The families of the victims of the #BeirutBlast will lead us as we demand justice. Can’t explain the pain here. My heart is with the families.
This video is a window into the fury in the #BeirutBlast aftermath, an anger we should never never let go of. I always come back to Nizar’s words, his anger settles me.

Friday marks three years since the #BeirutExplosion. Sharing this piece I wrote in 2021 on the aftermath.
“Find the missing,
help the wounded,
bury the dead,
take revenge.”
One promise still unfulfilled.
