fuck sam altman forever for taking away the last places where we could engage in good faith: the creative arts, which should be a testament to human ingenuity. i am so mad that everything i read or listen to or admire is now tainted with doubt. do you understand? he is a thief of joy and i HATE HIM
wrote about the claim that the D party has abandoned its working class roots.
that didn't happen, bec Ds only recently began to fitfully fight for a multi-racial working class. the current D party is the best D party there's been. a low bar, but still. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/this-democ...
This becomes obvious very quickly if you've ever tried to write historical fiction and attempted to do even a modicum of research about how much a given amount of past currency would be "worth" today and you realize you need a dozen different conversions for all the different categories.
The data in question wasn't incorrect, mind you, it just wasn't especially helpful in illustrating most people's practical experience of the economy.
IMO the longer you keep using the same analytical framework on economic data, the more likely you are to be measuring the wrong things.
but nothing is more expensive. you are simply hallucinating this
A thing about the heaviest users of chatbots is that they acclimate to cloying obsequiousness. Like a billionaire and their entourage of viziers, it becomes normal to them.
Any interaction that is *not* abject simpering they'll now perceive as a slap to the face, an aggressively violent outburst.
no one does it like owlcat and even they have no idea what theyre doing half the time. best game studio there is
Redistricting fights seem like the quintessential example of the phenomenon whereby Democrats are treated with contempt for having principles that they often fail to live up to, while Republicans get treated with respect for refusing to have any kind of principles at all.
This is not necessarily solvable because people don't want Democrats to be Republicans, they want them to be mommy.
Been sayin'. Trump is working out JUST FINE for the entire management class and most of the political class. Their torpor is easily explained by the fact that it's hard to pretend to be upset when you're getting everything you've always wanted.
An Ohio lawmaker, fed up with not knowing how to watch Cleveland Cavaliers games without subscribing to a dozen services, is looking into drafting legislation to prevent exclusive streaming deals for professional sports. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/04/22/f...

Quiet Posters feed not working
why.bsky.team subscribed to the anti anti ai block list, blocking over 300 000 users
If you wonder why the "Quiet Posters" feed doesn't work for you anymore, it is because the @why.bsky.team subscribed to an anti-anti-ai block list, rendering it useless for over 300 000 users. Good job bsky team!!
Wait until they find out about Bart Simpson
SAM NEILL GENERAL JOHN MACARTHUR If you were to commit a murder, how would you do it? It's got to be big! No slipping something into someones drink, that's just pathetic. I'd use a steamroller, just leave a stain on the road. There's probably a couple of people I'd put under a steamroller, but I won't say who they are, otherwise when they see a steamroller coming their way they'll be on full alert. And steamrollers don't go very fast...
Never forget that time Sam Neill gave a quote about murder that was so beautifully kabonkers, we all assumed it was a Clickhole bit initially
If you reply to someone's post passionately agreeing with them and also posting a link to resources,
CAUTION
does it read like you are incompetently disagreeing? Did you say, at all, that you agreed? With words?
There are SOME instances where breaking rules or ignoring unspoken norms of governance are a core part of the problem, but so often politicians do the "the Iran War is bad because Trump didn't get permission from Congress first!" thing instead of leading with how bad something is in and of itself.
There are so many Democrats, and even people to the left of Democrats, who aren't willing to say that something is bad because of *who is doing it and why*, rather than bad because it breaks rules or violates an establish norm of governance.
like you can take this Christian dude to task for not being able to recognize the Republican party as objectively the party currently serving as an illegitimate tool for foreigners and criminals at the expense of the US public, but at least he's willing to SAY "it's good when my side does it"
honestly i kinda prefer this level of honesty to the alternative, where conservatives pretend to have whatever principles are most convenient to their narrative at any given time and we waste energy calling them out on their hypocrisy.
Itβs amazing how many bullies become deeply principled pacifists the first time they get punched back.
Margo Martin @MargoMartin47 X.com Congratulations, Georgia Women's Tennis! The photo shows Trump and five white dudes in red ties standing in front of and completely blocking 10 young women
Priceless post from the official White House social media
So possibly parental warnings only really get weird when parents start trying to replace instinctive supernatutral pareidolia with formal theology.
Like we all understand the function of fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood as warnings, but the further back in time you go and the less the public knows about why bad things actually happen, the more likely the parent is to have every reason to believe childish disobedience DOES attract demons.
Certainly parents and other childminders throughout history experienced disproportionately horrible things happening to children who didn't follow rules like "don't go into the forest alone" or "don't play with that sharp object." "Listen to me or evil spirits will GET you" would seem 100% literal!
I recently read that belief in an afterlife is in line with every other attempt to explain natural phenomena (thunder, seasons, etc) in that human pareidolia leads us to genuinely experience what FEELS like impressions of the dead.
I can see how parental warnings would evolve that way too.
There are billboards in SF that say βstop hiring humansβ
