Congratulations to @helenisinthelab.bsky.social for winning the Suspended! challenge at #lorneiandi 2026! She had great competition from Long Huynh. Thank you to VIIN and all the sponsors for making this amazing event possible.

Announcing my Suspended! competition just for #Lorneiandi 26 🎮
Play my video game (grow into a C. albicans biofilm). Highest biomass wins a Suspended! t-shirt ❤️

Great work from Leanie Kleynhans showing that alveolar macrophages from diabetic patients have impaired responses to Mtb!

Nah you didn't miss much!
Legend. I will take pics for you if it happens!
You on aurora watch tonight Shane?
Useful for reaching audiences outside of academia with an interest in research news. Not fun in any way
Pssst! Mycology Masterclass enthusiasts!
Details are on the website and registration opens April 7th. Places will fill up quickly.

I'm doing my first pulse chase experiment and I like that it sounds like an action film.
PULSE CHASE starring Françios Olivier
It also sounds like a sick run club. An absolute winner of a name.
Thanks Shane, you were fantastic (as always)
This guy was just awesome today - not often you have a guest bring you science gifts, do a great interview, and then sing about their work as well!
Just a lovely time hanging out with @drshanerrr.bsky.social, ChrisKP and Dr Scarlett on Triple R today 🎙❤️
Also my first time singing about fungi on radio... a love song about Candida 😍 Definitely harder to do live!

Thank you to Monash Micro Imaging and Thermo Fisher Scientific for awarding me 2nd place 🥈 honours in the 2024 MMI Image competition 🤩
Well done to all the winners, there were some truly spectacular images and I am so proud to be featured alongside them all.
With more #MycoSky arriving here by the day, lets gather everyone and rebuild.
Please let me know if I’ve missed out on you or anyone relevant 🍄🟫😎

Oh my! What a surprise to see the buzz on this app ❤️ Goodbye X 👋
Everyone meet “Billy” my new desk mate, already has a long induction waitlist 🔬
Safety SUNglasses recommended for use, which involves staring directly into an LED. The blindness that results is temporary and absolutely worthwhile for the outstanding imaging achieved.
This (the distance) is a very Melbourne problem, its something I miss about NZ
New year, new toys 🍄🔬
Wishing everyone a happy 2024, keep pioneering and discovering!
This method can be used for many microbes and immune cells.
I really love protocol papers, stoked to have finally written my own!
Thanks to Volker Hilsenstein and Ana Traven for making this one possible.
I used this workflow to show that C. albicans escape from macrophages using candidalysin + gasdermin D, published in @CellReports last year
C. albicans forms a kind of “poisonous sword” to cut its way out of the macrophage, leaving a mess behind.
New paper! STARProtocols actually let me write a big ol’ protocol: live cell imaging to quantify Candida albicans escape from macrophages.

I’m talking notes, video demonstrations, troubleshooting, sample data, MATHS!
Oh right, let me get back to you!
So happy to see awesome scientists migrate here! Twitter/X has so many problems, it’s just not the vibe for science anymore.
Could you make one for the paper Im working on with Kelly & co? We’re working on a methods-focussed manuscript? I mean that would just be epic to have an animation for it.
You’re very welcome. Just keen to get the fungal path community on here!
Saccharomyces cerevisiae: a brief etymology
saccharon = sugar 🍭
myces = fungus 🍄
cerevisiae = latin for "of beer" 🍺
Think I'll have a cerevisiae tonight...
