The latest @gbatnet.bsky.social "My Field for Dummies" is on Urban Bats. Robin Rowland from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland investigates how #bats 🦇 respond behaviorally and physiologically to urbanisation and anthropogenic structures in Australian www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTej...
🦇As the weather gets warmer, brown long-eared bats will start shedding their ear muffs which protects their fragile ears from the cold during hibernation.
If you find these on the floor in your local area, you are in luck - brown long-eared bats are around! 🥰
New paper alert:
>80k nacelle-height recordings and stereo-thermal 3D tracks show that bats sing in the rotor-swept zone and circle turbine nacelles. We need smarter, species-sensitive curtailment that aligns both climate and biodiversity goals.

USA cotton farmers benefit by $3.7-53 billion per year
Italian apple orchards benefit by €551/ha
Rice farmers in Europe benefit by €56/ha

Lots of great new OA 🦇 research 📄 published recently that provide valuable insights into different aspects of bat responses to natural and man-made elements of the #environment. Whilst these may not seem particularly "exciting" they provide crucial evidence to aid bat conservation.
