I think the big stumbling block that corporations like Meta ran into is that the people in charge just had... ZERO imagination. They're the most terminally boring people on the face of the planet. Their idea of VR was as a virtual office to attend as your boring human self.

if S&box was developed by anyone else or using a different engine i am not sure anyone would care

It's main thing from my perspective is "It's Source 2!" and then every blog post from them is about replacing a source 2 system with their own so whats even the point? If I wanted to make a high fidelity Roblox game I'd use UEFN and if I wanted to make an actual game I'd use a normal engine.

snippet of https://github.com/shundhammer/myrlyn/issues/116

iseperiergos: "In my opinion using AI to make the icon of such an important application is at least disrespect full to the users. Also imagine how the people who used to use Yast are now going to feel, having to change to a program that looks low effort."

shundhammer (main developer) : "Nobody stepped forward to create an icon when the call went out to do so, so I had to do something myself. And actually, I don't see it as "low effort" (WTF?!), especially when I compare it with today's abstracted-to-death flat and uninspired (and too often just monochrome) icons that have become so common.

If somebody doesn't like Myrlyn as it is, they are free not to use it. There is always zypper.

If you read the README.md (and also the page of the initial Hack Week project), you will see that the original plan was to release Leap 16.0 without any counterpart to YaST software. Nothing. Nada. Garnix. So I started this project, mostly as a one-man show. And now the eternal whiners come complaing that the application icon, of all things, isn't fancy enough? Gimme a break.

Where were all those people when there was work to do? Where was their engagement back then?

It is what it is, and I am not going to throw away the brand recognition that has grown over the past year."

i had looked if someone already made an issue about it on github and the dev basically defends prompting as "high-effort actually" and talks about not throwing away brand recognition for a niche configuration app thats existed for a single year, so thats nice

i had to google what myrlyn is, this post is a bit misleading, it's not a replacement for zypper, just a frontend ala Discover that you probably wouldn't know existed if you werent already using yast2 before it was deprecated, and you can just remove it from your system fwiw
