Skill issue, if language is a barrier to your kid playing on a playground. Kids figure out ways to play together even before they can talk.

How much "loss" do fire departments report annually? Police? The armed forces? Roads? Schools? Solid waste collection? Wastewater treatment? Public health agencies?

It's interesting, because Canada spent $6.48 billion last year alone on the RCMP: rcmp.ca/en/corporate.... & yet I'm not being inundated with articles about the fact that the service is a financial gaping maw

“America has the greatest road network in the world … [and] includes 10 of the 25 most congested cities.“ Someone in Sean Duffy’s office is both so close and so far from getting it.

Photo of my toddler on the back of my big orange long tail bicycle in the winter. There is snow on the ground. The bicycle is parked beside a circle bike rack beside a snow covered road. The toddler is in an orange toddler seat on the back of the bicycle. They are wearing a purple polka dot parka, a snowboard helmet, a balaclava, and sunglasses. The bicycle has bar mitts, a big front rack and bag, and two waterproof paniers on the sides.

I made a shirt for the @bikewinnipeg.bsky.social AGM.

One of our city councillors called us the “Big Bike Lobby”, when 100+ people took the day off of work to share their harrowing stories with a dangerous street. And it stuck with me.

I do in fact pilot a big bike.

CBC doesn’t have resources for actual reporting, apparently, and is relying on police press releases only.

Yeah, and we’ve been told by WPS before that they won’t invest these resources unless someone has been killed.

Getting word that we’ve made contact with the family and a pedestrian was killed today. Look for more information about a vigil and other ways to support the family soon.

No no, they fix each other! Cut yourself? Glue the laceration together. Stick your fingers together while doing that? Get that blade out and cut them apart. Repeat!

Yeah, I do not love how far those evidence tags are from the crosswalk. Serious speed involved.

Section of Henderson Highway closed after pedestrian hit early Sunday morning, police say | CBC News A section of Henderson Highway was closed on Sunday after Winnipeg police say a pedestrian was hit early that morning.

Been watching this all day, still no information. Police usually don’t close major routes for investigations like this unless someone was killed, though.

It frustrates me every time I see someone describe possible things we haven’t been able to do yet as “impossible.” There’s lots of things that seem impossible until we do them.

Currently thinking about how “saving” money by not meeting our sidewalk clearing policy has other costs that we also pay.

My fear is that the realignment of power of unwinding driver supremacy has some of the same contours as unwinding white supremacy or patriarchy. Privilege does not go down easy. My hope is that driver identity may prove less durable. Easier to pick up a bike than put down whiteness or masculinity.

Efforts to realign enforcement with moral or codified rules are often met with incredulity or alarm by a driving community. Impunity has created a sense among drivers that any challenge to their privileged position is an unreasonable assault on their class interests. They react politically.
