The Sex Work Historian’s HIV Is Not A Crime Awareness Day infographic features various motivational slogans and the words: “I am not a crime.” The image also contains a grey peach (The Sex Work Historian’s logo) and a red umbrella (the international symbol for sex workers’ rights).
February 28 is #HIVIsNotACrimeAwarenessDay. Despite what the state says, being HIV/AIDS positive is not a crime. Just like how being gay, trans, Black, or a sex worker isn’t/shouldn't be a crime- all of which intersect with anti-HIV/AIDS stigma. You are here. You matter. And you aren’t a crime.
As #BlackHistoryMonth ends, I want some folks to remember that BHM is year-long. Black folks' tribulations, triumphs, and lived experiences don't begin/end in Feb. History is intersectional. All history is Black history, and neither Black history nor BHM would exist without Black sex workers.
