Bluesky CEO: imagine a 'world without Caesars' Jay Graber dunks on Mark Zuckerberg without mentioning his name.

Antifragility in system design remains the goal. The ever-elusive, just-out-of-reach goal. We'll get there someday, hopefully not too far in the future.

Happy New Year 🎊 2025 is going to bring a lot of challenges - which we'll all have to meet. But none of us have to do that alone 😊 we all have to remember that.

Tell me more. I'm not from a culture where either features, but had a fantastic panettone this festive season. So you're saying there's something better... 🤔

Paksenarrion. 200% her, no contest.

Granny Weatherwax as well for sheer unbending, unyielding willpower.

Editorial cartoon by Joel Pett, dated 12/7/9.
At a Climate Summit, a long list of benefits is displayed:
- energy independence
- preserve rainforest
- sustainability
- green jobs
- livable cities
- renewables
- clean water, air
- healthy children
- etc. etc.
In the audience someone asks their neighbour “What if it’s a big hoax and we create a better world for nothing?”

Bet on the greater good.

Behind the Bastards Presents: Better Offline Behind the Bastards · Episode

I've been catching up on podcasts - Behind the Bastards in this case - and how have I never come across Ed Zitron's "Better Offline" podcast before!?

Everything I rant about 🤣 which I admit is not unique, but the rot goes deeper...

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that feature while on holiday earlier in the year - well done!

Foundational fix to the system, or more duct tape and prayers? Why does short term thinking win every time?

...

I know why, I'm just frustrated 🤣

There's a Wordle community on here?

It's because you forgot the daily standup and retro, obviously. Then you'd be agile. 🤣

Too much dogma in development.

Twitter became a complete cesspool, every time I checked in it seemed worse.

Here I can just discuss things I enjoy & work on, with like-minded people, and it's fun.

I do not need the negativity and "discourse" in my life, thanks. They can stay on Twitter.

The game that really got me & my friends hooked so very many years ago - the original StarCraft.

Also Quake. Having our minds blown when one person started using *gasp* the mouse AND the keyboard.

I've read it but literally decades ago... I have it on my bookshelf still, and suddenly thinking it's time for a re-read.

Bumblebee population increases 116 times over in 'remarkable' Scotland project ‘The sound of traffic and a uniform sea of barley have been replaced by the most beautiful meadows, full of wildflowers, young saplings and the buzz of bees’

Some good news I missed from a couple of weeks ago.

No no, space, commuting only to sit in virtual calls, fighting for meeting rooms, paying for lunch... That's nothing compared to... Eh. Culture? The feeling of power the execs get? Keeping boomer managers happy?

Practical topics, or more philosophical? I'm guessing practical, since you want to share useful resources?

Morning routine, post-workout, ideally with coffee.

Quordle (classic -> extreme -> sequence) ➡️ for the warmup.
Wordle ➡️ for bragging rights
Strands ➡️ easy
Connections ➡️ frustratingly American

Maybe Tightropes, maybe Worldle. Kickstart the brain.

Or I have a problem 😆

Question for the Bluesky Product Community: What books would you recommend for product managers and product leads, which are NOT written specifically for PMs.

Think books like "How Big Things Get Done" or "Influence" or "Antifragile".

Bad flashback there of "fixing the roadmap" by trying to do everything at the same time, and inexperienced senior product leads allowing it to happen with little or no pushback.

To the surprise of no-one, nothing was fixed.

It really is a question on how to prevent and mitigate that, for us.

Sunday evening product management truth. If you spend more time talking about how to prioritise work, which tooling to use, how the team should be set up, which framework to use than you do actually solving problems... Then you are either in a bad company, or you are a bad PM.

Is Product Management a BS job? Some PMs in the sector are beginning to question their own work - can we learn lessons from this?

Ending the week with a fun article, although at this point I believe every PM has seen it. If not, enjoy!

"Is Product Management a Bullshit Job"?

My opinion: No.

However there is a large amount of bullshit floating around on the daily 🙂

I prefer the "yeah so I told the client we have this feature. We do, right? Deal depends on it. Ok bye, chat later."
