Girlguiding decision important yet it all makes me sad. The Guides meant so much to me but the announcement is so grudging, so reluctant, so concerned about the impact on boys, I wonder if it can ever again give girls the brilliant, confidence building space in which I thrived.

Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.

I genuinely see random normal looking women reading Jordan Peterson in public semi regularly and have to resist the urge to ask them, like, why

Even the most generous reader – the one who was driven by an excess of caution or charity towards those who spent time with Epstein – would note that Epstein’s social circle, though highly elite, is also decidedly distasteful. The drawings and letters and various missives from Epstein’s well-wishers almost uniformly consist of the kind of crude, jocular misogyny and objectification of women that passes for friendship between men of little intellect and even less character.
Clearly, they thought they were being funny; there’s a decent chance that to Epstein, his abuse of those girls and young women was hilarious. Sexual violence is often experienced as violence only by the victims: to the perpetrators, it is delightful fun – trivial and unserious – and it is the perpetrators, endowed as they so often are by maleness, age, money and status, whose view guides that of others. History, after all, is written by the winners, and in cases of sexual abuse, it is almost always the men who win.
I wrote about Jeffrey Epstein’s birthday book. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Thanks. Lots of uncertainty on what's going to happen with midfield but lots of options. Excited to see how it shakes out.

On Beth's situation - I completely agree we need 4 good wingers for next season and would not want to let her go without a good offer. However, are we missing mariona in the equation here? Is it a given that she's just "a midfielder" now? Our wingers could easily be mariona, smith, foord and Kelly

Do we no longer have a meadow park home advantage? I cannot think of a time in the past 6 months where we've had an outstanding performance there.

We DO look unambitious compared to Chelsea and city (although I wouldn't swap for city's centerback situation), is that what it is? Is it budget? Have we just missed out a few times? How much has the manager situation made a difference, if any?

What in your opinion is the current barrier to securing the transfers we want currently? I think we can become biased when things don't go perfectly (we have signed fox, mariona and Russo in recent windows), but I get the impression we haven't gotten what we want. I know Jonas missed targets.
