I'm not quite sure how people are really using a site like Ko-Fi or similar? Do people really just ask for tips to fund stuff and that works? I'm used to offering something in return.

By the way, I know streaming platforms have been gaining some negative reputation lately. My whole discography is free on Bandcamp. Both as Alex Bober and Magdalene Flowers (if you even remember that little project of mine). Not even "name your price", absolutely free. The link is in my bio.
Hey #music people: is there anywhere apart from Soundcloud and Bandcamp where I can post a track so people can stream it and listen? Preferably not an unethical craphole of a site. At some point I'm looking at rolling out some very low cost ethical hosting, but until then...
It has taken me nearly 30 years to make tracks I loved 30 years ago.
This remains, and I say this advisedly, one of the best exchanges I have ever seen on social media
How did the tech industry get so powerful? It's simple. There are major media outlets that will simply copy paste anything they say
I first logged into a BBS sometime in the mid 80s. It filled me with genuine excitement. Now, the Web is a junkyard. We're all sifting for the gems and often finding nothing. Bots, spam, AI, disinformation, profiteers... The Web now is a trash heap, and it's exhausting. I don't really care anymore.
People are people. The more you get in one location, the more crap gets amplified. The idea is that separate instances could have their own culture, and they can. As always, the problem is people. This is why I doubt a perfect solution. Perhaps better we have less connection rather than more.
I know. I've run one. It all depends what you look for in social media. I think scale is an issue. I doubt there is a perfect answer. One issue is people thinking social media should be as big as Twitter and provide a similar experience. Decentralised can be very small.
Tbh, this is why Mastodon, based on Activity Pub, is a better long-term solution. Profiteers won't touch it. Bluesky just has the user base.
The "largely-improvised ambient guitar" work of chrysanthemum is #OnAmpwall
Check out the robust discography spanning 14 years!

Going to check it out.
I really don't know. You choose an instance and go. Seems easy to me. Lots of people seem to have it in their heads that it's only for nerds who like complex apps.
It's a social app built on a federated platform, not unlike Bluesky, but completely open source. All non-profit. Very much an anti-capitalist vibe. Lots of ex-Twitter people signed up but found it too complex (I don't think it is at all) or hated there was no algorithm to game.
Good luck man.
Love those covers. Never seen those editions.
JSP?
Mastodon is better for that. Genuine engagement but less engagement overall, is my experience. Bluesky is better for the numbers at this point.
Digging that colourful analyser. What is it?

Anybody else noticing how small the music community is here on @bsky.app ?? Let’s change that!! If you make music or visual arts follow me and I’ll follow you back. I want to see the music scene thrive here.

You can get sent to jail for stealing toilet paper but if you hire a dozen children to work overnight shifts at your slaughter house your company pays a fine

TECHNO/INDUSTRIAL WITH SOME EXPERIMENTAL ELEMENTS. ENJOY.
I really like Analog Stage first gain staging and EQ Thirty One for rebalancing before a gentle compressor.
