This is horrific. I feel physically ill.

Breaking News: President Trump is said to be in talks to send Afghans who helped the U.S. war effort to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Fifteen minutes before the President announced he was pausing strikes on Iran, somebody moved $500 million in oil futures. Somebody knew. Somebody told them. Or somebody is them.

JUST IN: A federal judge has tossed a defamation lawsuit Kash Patel brought against former FBI official / pundit Frank Figliuzzi.
Figliuzzi’s claim that Patel spent more time in nightclubs than at FBI HQ was “rhetorical hyperbole,” the judge rules.

The "fuck your feelings" people harrumphing about things being "egregious" is so funny
Republicans have always believed it's cheating for Democrats to fight back in any capacity, not least because so many Democrats agree
every conservative political complaint comes back to "those people shouldn't count because they disagree with me"
"I was ABSOLUTELY told that the Democrats would be bringing knives to the gun fight. What the fuck are they doing bringing guns?" --a whole lot of Republicans looking at the results from Virginia right now
“For hundreds of years Germany was good enough to receive these elements, although they possessed nothing except infectious political and physical diseases”.
-Hitler, speaking of the Jewish population in a speech to the Reichstag, January 30, 1930.
RFK Jr. just said that immigration is to blame for the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S., not him.
It’s exact in form and nature of a propaganda tactic lifted from Nazi Germany, scapegoating communities they were targeting
She's not happy.
A reminder while Republicans bitch about Dems finishing the redistricting fight they started: they have full control of gov’t— they can pass a law banning gerrymandering any time they want. They won’t. Republicans aren’t mad gerrymandering exists; they’re mad that they’re not the only ones using it.
The apparent theory here--SPLC was defrauding donors by paying right-wing extremist org informants, and also took completely legal steps for obscuring the money trail for very obvious reasons on this totally legal thing to do--is ludicrous even by the notoriously malleable standard for wire fraud.
Any AUSAs who agree to take on this case, any AUSAs who oversee them, and any USA/DAG who chooses to lead them should never find employment as lawyers again.
(Except obv the oligarchs will find sinecures for some--but not all--of them. Accountability and billionaires are too often incompatible.)
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you will know I am an AI skeptic. But for the lawyers, much to my surprise, I have discovered some genuinely helpful use cases that I will share here:
1. Upload your brief and ask it to find typos. It’s incredibly good at that.
7. The DOJ/FBI are trying to pin blame for the deadly “Unite the Right” rally on SPLC’s use of an informant. This is absurd. SPLC loudly warned of the threat of “conflict and potential violence” at the rally BEFOREHAND in this deeply researched Hatewatch newsletter:
www.splcenter.org/resources/ha...
Indictment of @splcenter.org is based on clear false narrative.
False: DOJ and Kash Patel's claim that SPLC supported white supremacist groups via paying informants.
Reality:
“We frequently shared what we learned from informants with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI."
3. The indictment doesn’t mention that SPLC provided intelligence from its informant program to law enforcement/FBI to dismantle extremist groups.
But that fact, which will surely come out in discovery, undermines the entire premise the DOJ/FBI case.
2. Kash Patel himself cut off “all ties” between the FBI and SPLC less than a year ago. So he knows SPLC was feeding the FBI intel on extremist groups - that is, seeking to “dismantle” these groups, just as they told donors. Nothing in the indictment shows they misled donors.
x.com/FBIDirectorK...
1. The central claim in the indictment of SPLC is a lie.
The DOJ/FBI accuse SPLC of lying to donors about seeking to “dismantle” extremist groups while secretly funding them. But the funds were used to infiltrate & help law enforcement dismantle these groups. Kash Patel knows this is the truth…
Like Trump’s other spurious political proescutions, this is borrowing a page from his private sector penchant for litigation as a weapon to make the target’s life hell. He doesn’t have to win. He gets to publicly smear them & cost them a lot of money & stress even when they ultimately win.
"POLIO IS NOT 'SITMAXXING'"
EXCLUSIVE: The SPLC indictment, the Klan history behind it, and the ignominy of Todd Blanche.
Another dark day for DOJ.
Tonight, at Law Dork:
Two things can be true:
Congress should pass uniform, national legislation reining in partisan gerrymandering; and
Until that happens, or every state adopts an independent redistricting commission, neither party is going to (or, frankly, should) unilaterally disarm.
The message of the Right reacting to Virginia is the same as the message of "2020 was rigged": no victory by anyone but us is ever legitimate. We are the only ones allowed to win.
These people are cartoon villains entitled to no respect and no trust. Rabid dogs.
Rob Schneider did a comedy standup at CPAC and one of his jokes was: "Somalia is not sending their best; they're not sending their doctors or engineers, if they have any... hehehe".
And he still believes Hollywood "blacklisted" him. Maybe they just don't like shitty racist jokes, Robbie.
