People keep telling me to treat LLMs as junior devs, as if "a junior dev who is structurally incapable of learning from mistakes" isn't a working definition of hell.
and these people get paid for teaching students how to conduct fair and ethical research, right?
and LLMs are bad at recognizing RARE things (as they still are deeply probabilistic), so even good named entity recognition models easily miss some place names, for instance (those that could be covered by a good gazetteer!)
and now, when the situation is very different from this point of view, but they want you to come to their overpriced poorly ventilated business centers (where you often can't even open a window, oh how I "love" this shit), sometimes in the middle of nowhere
it's also kinda ironical to remember that even in a traditional societies, like not that much time ago, many people at least used to work not that far from their homes; often even big factory owners themselves lived near the factories, and residential areas for workers were built guess where
oh, I forgot to mention that Åland still is very special, they have an autonomous mail system and issue their own stamps, so this event is super cool and unique from all possible aspects :D
I haven't seen it myself, it's actually quite tricky to get there without a car (possible, but you really have to plan everything)
but I would love to
anyway, I think there's always something very special about such events, amazing :D
(sorry not sorry, I'm a local history nerd)
they use the authentic boats and their replicas, and the same applies to the clothes
you can even loan them as long as there are some options available
in addition, even if you can't come, you can buy a postcard which will be taken along in a postmen's bag and then sent to you
one of the coolest historical reenactment events in the Stockholm region is Postrodden, the boat rowing race recreating the historical postal route from Sweden to Finland: the road itself was of big importance, but you know, there is also the sea...

1 - what it's like living the rest of your life with a tolerable level of chronic illness [guy's face just above water] 2 - [guy completely underwater, from the side, his face just above it saying 'at least i'm not drowning'] just because you can survive it, doesn't mean you should have to. it's ok to say you're not ok. artist: sako asko mybodyistryingtokillme.com
seeing most academics complaining about "publish or perish" culture, crazy academic market, dealing with AI fakes, and other problems doesn't make you very compassionate when you know how non-inclusive this world has been towards chronically ill people
either try to change it, or it'll eat you, too
es to naktī izlasīju ar 1000% WTF sajūtu
it's also incredibly sweet that one can literally vote to choose the names of the newborn Highland calves from one of these places
they get named after flowers, and each year, there is another letter of the alphabet, this year it was L

alpacas and Valais Blacknose sheep in Törndal, Upplands Väsby

Highland cows by Bögs and Väsby gård, Sollentuna

one of the best things this year was to discover some farms north of Stockholm (one technically located in Stockholm proper) with Highland cows and alpacas
by the way, they have very important work to do, they literally help to preserve pasture/meadow landscapes
I've been rediscovering crocheting this year, and it brings me so much joy (even in the most depressive times)!
it's minimalistic (you basically need just a hook and some yarn)
and I also want to remind you that it is pure magic
