The recent antisemitic hate crimes we've witnessed in North London are a deeply dangerous warning sign for all of our communities in this city. This kind of crime cannot and must not be normalised here or anywhere.
It demands a response.

Yet more Tube strikes today. Still no resolution. Londoners are fed up with paying the price for repeated breakdowns in talks. TfL and unions must get back round the table. But where is the Mayor? London needs leadership to get a grip. He promised zero strikes, not zero action
Screenshot of a paragraph from an article discussing declining birth rates and housing pressures in London. The text explains that high housing costs, short-term rentals, and family-unfriendly building trends are contributing to fewer children in cities. It notes that many families are moving away, with eight of the ten fastest-shrinking boroughs for primary school children in the UK located in inner London. The passage cites high rents—65% above the UK average—and limited housing space, with fewer large homes in London compared to the rest of England. It concludes that most new affordable homes built in the past decade have only one or two bedrooms, worsening the issue.
Last month, the London Assembly, the elected body that holds the mayor to account, published the report “A London for Every Child: Reversing the City’s Declining Child Population”. Its proposed range of measures includes a London Children’s Ambassador to co-ordinate policy on child-friendliness and statutory targets for boroughs on child-friendly housing as part of the mayor’s next plan. It also proposes a commitment from the mayor by June for London to become a Unicef Child-Friendly City — which entails adhering to UN standards on participation, children’s rights, budgeting and data monitoring. “Families with children often cannot find a suitably sized home . . . and are either forced to move to a different part of the city or out of the capital altogether,” notes Hina Bokhari OBE AM, chair of the assembly’s economy, culture and skills committee, in the report’s forward.
What is a city without children? Excellent piece in the FT on why the number of children London is falling, the impact it's having on communities and what we can do about it! Read in full here: www.ft.com/content/c406...

Quote from Assembly Member Hina Bokhari OBE: "London must always be a city where people of every faith feel safe to live, worship, and belong. This attempted attack could have been catastrophic had those petrol bombs ignited, but even without that, its impact will be deeply felt, especially coming so soon after other attacks on Jewish communities and amid record levels of antisemitism. Solidarity alone is not enough, words on paper are not enough. We need decisive action to bring communities together, confront hatred wherever it appears, and ensure there is no place for this kind of violence and division in our city.”

@eddavey.libdems.org.uk is right - I’ve been campaigning across the capital.
Voters want change in London and they can get that change by voting #LibDem this May. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I’m incredibly proud of Liberal Democrat colleagues across London who have organised to stand more candidates in these local elections on May 7th than at any local election since 1986.
Well done to all our members, Local Parties, the Region Executive, and to all the staff who have worked so hard.
We’re calling on the government to act to Keep Britain Moving.
When Parliament returns next week, we’ll be pushing hard for our plan: a 10p cut in fuel duty, a £1 cap on bus fares, and lower rail fares.
Israel's continued strikes in Lebanon are undermining any hope of peace.
The UK must act now: sanction Benjamin Netanyahu and his security cabinet, and halt all UK arms exports to Israel.
We must also finally proscribe the IRGC and support multilateral plans to disarm Hezbollah.
It's disappointing the London Assembly never got a chance to scrutinise this decision. I asked the Mayor in February how this money would be spent and got fobbed off, only for it to be announced in the run-up to elections. That's not democracy or good policy making - it just looks like vote-chasing.
We know how much young Londoners are struggling. Youth unemployment is rising fast. We've got the highest child poverty rate in the country. We desperately need more investment in youth services. But £1m a borough does not cut it. As for the timing of this announcement...🤔
Today, we’re proud to launch our manifesto, our positive plan for Merton.
These local elections are a chance to choose a fresh start for our community.

The Mayor of London launched a £20m AI taskforce, but we've had no details about what it will do - meanwhile AI is moving rapidly, and London hasn't got a plan...

We can build a better future for Britain, one based on hope, not fear.
This morning I spoke to BBC Radio London about the horrifying antisemitic attacks on the Jewish community last night.
My thoughts go out to those who have been impacted by this attack, and I'll be pressing the Govt to do more to clamp down on hate crime.
A horrifying antisemitic attack destroying ambulances that volunteers use to serve their community. Just despicable.
Antisemitism has no place in our country. Our Jewish friends should be able to feel safe on Britain’s streets.

👏👏👏
Happy Eid everyone!
It's up to all of us to stand up to racism for a kinder, more united, more caring Britain. Thank you to @eddavey.libdems.org.uk for praying with us and being a voice for Muslim communities in dark times. And to everyone celebrating, Eid Mubarak!
