NYC welcomes everyone and is the jewel of the world for it. Enormous credit for this goes to the many Black American heroes who would not be silenced.

As Black History Month begins, we honor the generations of Black New Yorkers who built this city into the “gorgeous mosaic” we call home.

Today, we reflect on the words of Mayor David Dinkins: our city’s first Black mayor (and a democratic socialist!).

One of the best organizers I know in the Twin Cities has a great line, "We can't always take away the hurt, but we can take away the alone."

While this is for new organizers from @prisonculture.bsky.social it’s an excellent reminder to veteran organizers. In these times (see why I did there?) we must all be grounded in the hope of what’s possible so we can continue to work for it and build it.

And what is happening inside ICE detention centers? 404 Media also learned that the federal government claimed that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.

My anecdotal sense is that something has broken through to the general public since yesterday. I have noted 5 posts on Fedbook from people I know who NEVER post anything they consider "political." All of them have posted some version of "enough is enough."

Gov. Landry declares emergency to fund Louisiana SNAP benefits amid federal shutdown The move makes Louisiana the only state in the Gulf South attempting to fund SNAP benefits for residents next month amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency to fund SNAP.

Landry asked the state legislature to authorize $150 million of state money to subsidize food stamps for children, the elderly, and disabled people for the next month.

The measure is expected to pass.

Just a reminder that the corporate/conservative wing of the Democratic Party prioritized identity politics & used it as a weapon against the economic populism that threatened their big donors.
