New research shows private firms made £1.6bn in profit from the NHS over the last two years. That money could have paid for over 19,000 nurses.

Private companies shouldn’t be profiting from the terrible state of the NHS.

It SHOULD be. Their history is an integral part of ours.

Thank you, again, for providing a stellar example of what good political leadership can and should be.

A beautiful, thoughtful, valuable way to start Black History Month.

PS: in a better society, a month wouldn’t be required as Black history would be healthily in all American history discourse

I remember working on his campaign in the Bronx when I was an organizer in Local 1199

It was a time of promise and of pride in the City

Black history is American history. Anyone who says otherwise can f*ck off.

NYC welcomes everyone and is the jewel of the world for it. Enormous credit for this goes to the many Black American heroes who would not be silenced.

Black History Month isn’t nostalgia—it’s truth-telling. This city, this country, was built by Black hands, Black labor, Black brilliance. Honoring that history isn’t radical. Erasing it is. Remember who built the mosaic—and who’s still trying to break it.

As Black History Month begins, we honor the generations of Black New Yorkers who built this city into the “gorgeous mosaic” we call home.

Today, we reflect on the words of Mayor David Dinkins: our city’s first Black mayor (and a democratic socialist!).

One of the best organizers I know in the Twin Cities has a great line, "We can't always take away the hurt, but we can take away the alone."

While this is for new organizers from @prisonculture.bsky.social it’s an excellent reminder to veteran organizers. In these times (see why I did there?) we must all be grounded in the hope of what’s possible so we can continue to work for it and build it.

ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued The government also said "we don't have resources" to retain all footage and that plaintiffs could supply "endless hard drives that we could save things to."

And what is happening inside ICE detention centers? 404 Media also learned that the federal government claimed that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.

My anecdotal sense is that something has broken through to the general public since yesterday. I have noted 5 posts on Fedbook from people I know who NEVER post anything they consider "political." All of them have posted some version of "enough is enough."

Just a reminder that the corporate/conservative wing of the Democratic Party prioritized identity politics & used it as a weapon against the economic populism that threatened their big donors.

This isn't speculation or some weird theory - Corporate Democrats were extremely explicit about it.

Accusing Jordan Silverman A D.C. teaching assistant was accused of molesting up to 15 kids. Multiple law enforcement agencies cleared him. But his nightmare was just beginning.

New from me:

Elite law firms, multiple media outlets, the D.C. attorney general, and a group of parents accused a teacher of molesting 15 kids. They were wrong.

This piece is two-and-a-half years in the making. And as you'll see, it took some incredible turns, even as I was reporting it.
