i feel like i'm really held back by the fact that i can't do anything more than flat colors, and i dont think i can put it off anymore!!! does anyone know any good material to help someone who really does not understand how it works to start learning proper digital rendering techniques?

they are also both really fundamental to actually Doing The Thing beyond just a basic level. but they're such solid brick walls that seem insurmountable to me

i just realized that rendering is the "learning kanji" of digital art. its the "ugh do i really have to," the "why is it like this," the "there's too much involved." at least for me, these two things take up the same space in my brain, which is probably why i haven't done either one successfully
