They were aggressively questioning my father, demanded all of our passports. They backed off when my mother made it clear she was from Belfast and we were going to see her mother. This was in the mid 1980s.
My mother is from Belfast. When going to see my grandmother as a kid, we once got stopped in our Irish reg car at a UDR checkpoint when we were well over the border. It was scary, far more intense than the regular British Army checkpoints ever were and it wasn't normal to get stopped like that.
I saw Ghostbusters II there in late 1989 I think it was, then I think it went out of business not long after that. It was pretty neglected by that stage.

Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.
"Ah now shure ye wouldn't hit a little minister like me with glasses, wouldya?"
Irish folks - posting "Breakpoint" propaganda is amplifying. They are awful people. We all know it.

This is outrageous but not surprising at all to me.
If you're a journalist who is still on substack, it is NOT ok.
A harem. No, wait, hang on. Can't go with that really, can we?
A howling, maybe?
The last episode is hard going. Haven't watched Season 2 just yet.
Fuuuuck. Maramagambo!!
I was there in 2004. The guides wouldn't let us approach the cave due to snakes. They said that people who were too close to the bats "very very sick"....
I took this close-up of the fruit bats in the cave and put it online years ago.
Thanks to @jmason.org for the repost!
Holy fucking amazeballs. @wendylyon.eurosky.social - perhaps you may find things you like?

I did my undergrad law degree in a Dublin law school, the course was validated by a UK university. After I graduated, the UK alumni team kept harassing me for money even though I never attended that university for my degree! Tgey just validated the course my law school was teaching!
The only thing McGuirk is good at is gripting his well, you-know-what.
Also, fascists, the same type of people that our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents fought against, some literally to their deaths.
Quit Substack, don't read Substack blogs. Yes, that means the folks reading my post who have one. Stop looking away. Move your blog.

I knew a few lads with trucks and tractors that could go in the sea over in that part of the world...
Protests around the country were the major factor in achieving a referendum - it pushed the issue to Constitutional Convention. Once that recommended repeal, more protests swung the vote. There may not have been many in Cavan but protests elswhere were reported and it counted for a huge amount.
Just to clarify - "there was interest". This should have read "there was no interest".
Grand. I'd just make the point that after the X case legisation went though, FG and FF were very happy say "job done", there was interest in repealing the 8th amendment. Her death didn't achieve it. A lot, and I mean a lot, of additional work as already described to you did.
I shall leave it there.
It didn't happen because Savita Halappanavar died, although that should have been the thing that saw a referendum to enable repeal. Instead it took several more years of demonstration, argument, organisation and persuasion on the doorsteps of the country.
