I needed this reminder -- Texas did this without consulting the voters

The YES has won in Virginia; voters approved the constitutional amendment to adopt Dems' congressional gerrymander.

This is likely to deliver a 10-1 (Dem) congressional delegation in November, compared to 6-5 (Dem) now.

The remaining obstacle: State supreme court will be weighing in still.

Honestly though “Federal Fallout” also applies to this election

Basically blowback to DOGE gave yes enough of a margin in NOVA to win

I want to know if anyone archives the campaign ads & fliers. People need to be shamed for a lot of them. I hate the idea of this toxic ephemera that just disappears w/o any accountability.

I was worried because I literally saw a lot of yard signs so I wasn't thinking about the voter manipulation as much as I was thinking about Virginia's past. When I grew up there it was arrogantly red, with some unhappy dissenters.

Ok last post

Good reminder that Black, Asian, and Hispanic voters big part of Virginia Dem coalition

Another election showing a shift from 2024

Also reason why Yes won

Also mailers invoking Jim Crow for No didn’t work and probably backfired

Loudoun (104/107 precincts reporting) came in at 84% turnout of 2025. The red localities are running close 100% of 2025. That differential turnout if it holds up elsewhere will pull the election closer

I sense this, too.

Fwiw Colonial Heights used to be nicknamed "Colonial Whites" 30 years ago. Cannot speak to it today.

The GOP was very active in getting out the vote on this issue. I saw a lot of signs & bumper stickers for No when I visited the Commonwealth recently.

In a new letter to Trump, Warren and several other Democrats raise fresh questions about the replies and the money. They label the situation “deeply troubling,” particularly given Trump 2.0’s “vast tide of corruption and self-enrichment.”

The discussions highlight the longstanding tension between America’s obligation to Afghans who face grave danger in retaliation for helping U.S. forces during the war, and the Trump administration’s pledge to curtail immigration.

with alt text, also unironically I think people who want to do shit like this should be shamed publicly until they stop and it shouldn't be legal

This is absolutely what I've been telling people -- AI is as good or as bad as the people using it, as the people in power. It's a terrible time in history to roll out AI, with more authoritarian countries on the planet than democracies.

And so journalism dies, not with a bang but with a whimper. And if there's anyone who still doesn't believe AI is basically a plagiarism machine when it comes to writers' work, hope this helps you get your head out of the sand.

Congratulations dedicated reporters, your years of underpaid tireless work and passion for seeking the truth have landed you the prestigious role of Skin Suit for Taboola Links, there is no opt-out

Yikes is right. I’d never voluntarily work under these unethical conditions. Giving up control of your byline is opening yourself up to liability, certainly loss of respect in this case. Your byline is your currency as a reporter. Shame on McClatchy.

The only purpose of this stunt is to scam readers. That's it. If execs aren't trying to fool readers into thinking stories written by the Error Robot came from real reporters, there would be no need for fake bylines.

The intent is, quite explicitly, fraud.

If not for Trump, what's the emoluments clause for? What's impeachment for? What's the 25th Amendment for? What's section 3 of the 14th Amendment for? What are checks and balances for?

The baddies are cherrypicking the Constitution the same way they do the bible: for their own benefit.

New lawsuit aims to block Trump DOJ from building national voter database via state voter roll grab The lawsuit calls the effort “a key component of the Trump Administration’s attempts to take over elections from states and subvert the 2026 midterms.”

250 years after Virginians declared independence from autocratic rule, Republican billionaires are trying to gerrymander it back.
