Yeah I’m right there with you

My last was 88 and had no issues. If the 85 are jam packed, I’d think it’s a good thing.
Somehow missed this when it dropped, but really great episode and worth the listen.
The “being someone’s reason for staying” is a great reason to leave. I stayed on Facebook years longer than I wanted to or should have because it was a connection point to two people in the industry and I worried if I left I would miss out. It took one of them leaving to inspire me to exit also.
Are the pitches over zoom? I’ve always wondered how those work?
What are the Indie Next or Library Reads deadlines?
#scriptsky anyone want to chat about writing sometime in April. Would love to do a zoom and hear about what you’re working on or enjoyed watching lately or swap stories from the trenches.
So tough when that happens. Not fair at all. When it happens, I always try to remind myself that it’s still one step closer to where I wanted to get then I was before that happened. And the experience is something to hopefully build on.
And appreciate your PHM recommend. Inspiring me to prioritize it asap.
Also The Fugitive is great! Absolutely addicted to that movie as a teenager. F1 was great too! I love when the movies that draw a mainstream audience get awards recognition, even when it’s usually just in nomination form.
Is that true though? I feel like we get at least one every 3-4 years. F1 was nominated this year and it feels like it fits that definition.
Really enjoyed yesterdays letter. Learned some new things about the evolving business.
If anything good happens, that success will have many authors. Lots of people have helped push the ball forward. But it all started with an idea that people were excited to read. Sitting here more than 2 years after finishing it. Good ideas don’t die, even if they take a while to get discovered.
I think a lot of good work gets lost because it’s hard to find the person who will champion the script. But the one benefit I had here, was the majority of the people I told the idea to, responded enthusiastically that “that’s a movie I would watch.” And it’s an idea I can pitch in a sentence.
Not really much worth sharing, but the notable part is that it’s mostly the same script I wrote 2 years ago. The only thing that changed was people are finally reading it. This script proved that mostly you need an idea people respond to. A lot of enthusiasm is built way before they open the script.
I wrote a script in 2023. A lot of really cool things have been happening with it this year. That’s mostly because for 2 years I had trouble getting anyone to read it. At this point I have a director and producer attached and it’s been starting to go out to a lot of really cool studios and prod cos
Anyone want to jump on a zoom and chat writing or spitball ideas or lament this crazy world? I got some time and happy to spend it on human interaction.
Been meaning to since before it came out, but life got in the way. Finally got to see Send Help last night. Movie has been out a while, but theater was still crowded. Great date night movie! Thanks for all the work @shannonandswift.bsky.social It was a blast!
I’m here.
There’s nothing better than getting a really cool text that a script is going to go to someone amazing, right before you go to sleep. Cheers to exciting dreams.
What genre is the new one?
If you want to do a zoom and spitball thoughts/ideas, I’m happy to do that.
I read it last year and I’ll second this. It’s a great read and makes you appreciate the film even more! Such a wild journey from idea to theaters.
That’s wild. Never knew that. Thanks for the new information.
Saw this in the theater, at least in part because of this post, and it was a ton of fun. Glad I prioritized it. Appreciate the recommendation.
What are some things you’ve enjoyed reading?
No questions today, but thanks for doing these. Always enjoy following your advice.
Hearing this a lot lately.
Making me think I need to prioritize seeing it in the theater.
Yeah I honestly use it very minimally and enjoy that much more. Not surprising for me to go 2-3 weeks between check-ins.
Truth. I’m right there also.
