This is not to say Vancouver is perfect. That’s still a bad homelessness rate, and the problem is famous.
But we should both be doing a LOT more of whatever they are doing that we are not.
I Seattle/Vancouver is a particularly interesting comparison because both cities have the exact same reputation for leniency on drugs and public homelessness, but clearly the outcome is wildly different.
Clearly something other than cracking down hard on public drug use is working for Vancouver

Vancouver BC and Seattle are very similar cities. Housing costs in Vancouver are significantly higher when you compare them to median wage. So why are homelessness rates less in Vancouver than half of Seattle?
Is it public housing? That would be my guess but I want to hear from Vancouverites
