Hyperfixation of the week: there is apparently a field called “forensic hairdressing” where people try to reconstruct ancient hair techniques. Below is one from Ancient Rome ca. 120 AD. The various play and design philosophies in RPGs insiting they are different is like two garishly dressed wrestlers cutting promos.
It is technically possible for an outsider to tell they are different. But you need a decent appreciation for the lore to tell whis is which. They do the same stuff.
