Image of Norman Nicholson (1914-1987) and illustrations inspired by his poetry created by schoolchildren and displayed at Millom Railway Station. Norman is shown smiling gently. He wears a tie and v-neck pullover. His wavy hair radiates out from his face, merging with his distinctive bushy side-whiskers. The image of Norman is a pencil drawing. The other images are in colour, predominantly blues, pinks, reds, greens, browns and blues, reflecting the local environment.

The last Zoom event in our Winter Season will take place online on Thursday 5th March, 2026 from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. The topic is 'Digital Norman'.

We will look at how much information about Norman Nicholson is available online and what that tells us about his current reputation. It will be fun!

Someone put this into Modern English. Who? They should also be acknowledged. William Langland's words would be hard for a contemporary audience to understand without the help of a form of translation. Give visibility to the translator!

A great poet!

A book highly recommended by the Norman Nicholson Society too! Well done, Ishita, for your sensitive review. Nicholson, recipient of the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and a Faber poet, published by TS Eliot, would have approved! ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's great to see someone interacting so sensitively and intelligently with contemporary poet. Cumbrian poet Norman Nicholson (1914-1987), who regularly reviewed for the TLS, would have approved!๐Ÿ™‚

The Norman Nicholson Society highly recommends Alison Brackenbury's 'Village'. Alison and Norman were kindred spirits - Alison's first collection of poems, 'Dreams of Power', came out in 1981, the same year that Nicholson's last collection 'Sea to the West' was published!

Sparkling Water on Morecambe Bay - an embroidered image in a silver screen by Kate Tame.

There's an exciting exhibition at Wordsworth Grasmere, inspired by the Wordsworths trips to South Cumbria, and it also references the work of Norman Nicholson. 'Sparkling Waters of Morecambe Bay' by Kate Tame is a beautiful example of this. See our website for full details: www.normannicholson.org
