We were glad to be able to contribute to this interesting rapid study on the Mega March heat hitting the US west this week

Germany's ambassador to the U.K. Susanne Baumann presents Professor Friederike Otto with The Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
We’re excited to announce that @frediotto.bsky.social has been awarded Germany’s highest honour for her groundbreaking work on climate science and extreme weather.
The award recognises her pivotal role in revolutionising attribution science: connecting extreme weather events to climate change.
NEW STUDY: Winter downpours are getting heavier in parts of Spain, Portugal and Morocco as the region recovers from a month of relentless storms.
Between mid-January and mid-February nine named storms brought torrential rain hurricane force winds causing major damage and disruption. 1/5
Our Postdoc, Dr Claire Bergin, presented our recent work to the Irish Met Society on Thursday. If you want to take a look at the full presentation follow the link below

NEW STUDY: Climate change is fueling deadly fires that threaten some of the world’s oldest living things: the ancient Alerce trees of Patagonia, which can live for over 3,000 years.
Our analysis shows that human-induced warming is making weather conditions more conducive to fire. 1/5

Latest (and very rapid) attribution study from @clairebergin.bsky.social @lionel-swan.bsky.social & Met Éireann @wasitusie.bsky.social
Our new study "Climate change increases flood risk associated with winter rainfall on east coast of Ireland" is available now

Watch out for our new study being published at 8pm on the WASITUS.ie website!
🚨 NEW STUDY: As Australia prepares for another heatwave, our latest study found the early January heatwave which hit SE Australia was made 5x more likely due to climate change. What was once a relatively rare 1-in-25-year event is now expected about every 5 years. 🧵 1/6

In the world we live in today, that is 1.3C warmer due to our continued burning of fossil fuels, the extreme rainfall leading to disastrous flooding in many parts of Asia is up to 50 to 160% more intense - new @wwattribution.bsky.social study www.worldweatherattribution.org/increasing-h...
Listen back: RTE news at 1 to hear our researcher Dr Claire Bergin talk about our new research. The study focuses on the rainfall associated with storm Claudia and the flooding related impacts. Starts at 25:50

The 2015 Paris Agreement could help the world avoid 57 hot days if countries follow through on their emission-cutting plans and limit warming this century to 2.6°C, a new study by @climatecentral.org and @wwattribution.bsky.social has found 🧵

Human-caused climate change made the warm days experienced this summer nine times more likely, and the warm nights 40 times more likely, according to a new study from climatologists at ICARUS, MU's climate research centre, and Met Éireann.

"Climate change turned a would-be average Irish
summer into a record breaker" - This was largely due to the high night-time temperatures which are 40 times more likely due to human-caused climate change. See our full report at mural.maynoothuniversity.ie/id/eprint/20...
Great to see coverage of our first full @wasitusie.bsky.social study on RTE (and elsewhere). Kudos @clairebergin.bsky.social and Lionel swan as well as met Éireann colleagues and thanks as ever to @wwattribution.bsky.social for the hugely valuable collaboration www.rte.ie/news/ireland...
