it worries me that one can clear a full academic education in computer engineering (BTech, MTech, whatever) without having ever read or known an RFC, a PEP, or an ISO standard. open knowledge and standards stop us from reinventing the wheel, and whole companies run on people who fail at this.
something to be proud of (?)

(early 20th century philosopher voice) the association between the creative exploratory aspects of cooking and philosophy has hitherto remained unexplored, as the Italians never mastered philosophy, the Germans food, and the English either.
this shit is always a 50/50 between "behold! we made the torment nexus" and "behold! the torment nexus (shows you a drawing of a dodecahedron)". a feed builder with some bells and whistles looks closer to the latter
if we made thought imaging technology, could dreams be copyrighted? i had a particularly trippy dream last night about an AI-generated Nietzsche self-help video that i could have never imagined, yet alone drawn sober. and yet, everything in the dream came from inside of my brain!
Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.
someone else brought it up to me a while ago and i noticed that the punchline for that one was already there in the prompt.
dunno the author of this post but i found it from a quick search

It must suck to spend your life getting wealthy and famous, only to realize too late that the true secret to happiness is studying old Greek philosophers and eating huge pots of cheese.
the replacement of waterfall with agile has left enterprise engineering with a java-shaped hole in its heart

A wall full of mugs arranged in such a way that it looks like the mugs are repeating themselves, creating an uncomfortable illusion
Woe, wall of astigmatism be upon ye

thinking about how famous philosophers are disproportionately childless. contra someone like feynman, who frequently mentioned interactions with his child. given the whole impetus of "assume nothing question everything", one would imagine there would be more anecdotes about like, actual children
Don't like the age verification that Discord announced? Looking for a Discord alternative? I sure have been! I've gone ahead and put together a list of alternatives and their fitness for use in communities big and small.

a variation of the "we should improve society somewhat." vs "yet you participate in society. very curious! i am very intelligent." sketch with the heckler's quotes replaced by the xkcd standards comic
it's anthropologically noteworthy that when you order something on swiggy there are 27 advertisements (upsells / cross-sells included, no deduplication) on the order screen and half of those are for credit cards

amazing, it has already made an SCP fanfic.
asked Gemini to review something that i wrote, and i find it funny that it latches onto the obvious bullshit red herring phrase that i came up with.
posting the story on my blog tomorrow.
i do think it's less productive when you're working in a trade / craft, because you're forced to deliberate on whatever you're learning during practice anyway.
notetaking is great in an academic context because it's slower than thinking / typing. it forces you to manifest what you're thinking and dwell on it for a bit. complex carbs for your brain or whatever.

perpetually perplexed that excel sheets are the size they are. the default of a million rows x a thousand columns makes absolutely no sense when you consider the average business user. it cant even perform at a 100th of the scale. hell, if i try to delete the extra cells it just fails.
people who hold money and may throw money at you should not be a key element of engineering let alone craft. yet industries as a whole have bent over their backs into a pretzel to pretend that decades-old technologies are in-fact jingleable keys for them
