"In the place of problem-solving technology, companies have jumped on successive bandwagons like NFTs, the metaverse, and LLMs. What these all have in common is that they are not built to really solve a market problem. They are built to make VCs and companies rich."

Siiiiigggghhhh… you can report all sort of stuff about bike share via find it fix it, but a car just blocking the entire bike lane, nope. Can’t possibly do that

As I dig through this, I think the right decision has to be turn off One Drive entirely. It keeps finding ways to use windows to auto-magically stuff crap up there, which I have no desire for it to do.

The great irony that it's a video game put out by Microsoft in 2025 that is finally getting me to do the work to turn off One Drive.

(Oblivion remaster, steam cloud saves, and one drive do not play nice.. guess which one loses here)

It’s probably a consequence of the Online Safety Act.

The Bike Lane Gender Gap: New Research Shows Women Ride More Where Protected Infrastructure Exists New research from New York City-based Transportation Alternatives highlights a persistent pattern in urban cycling.

NYC study shows men are 2.6x more likely than women to bike to work. When protected bike lane coverage is high, women’s cycling rates rise significantly faster than men’s.

When protected lanes are limited or fragmented, women’s participation drops sharply.

Good bike investments give women choices.

The house was amping it up as well. Guess I’m rooting Montreal for this one.

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

The best thing they can do to save rail to Ballard is to stop making concessions to powerful interests on station location and build the damn trains.

I’m pretty convinced that e-bikes isn’t relevant per se. E-bikes explode the set of population who can commute by bike. Commuting by bike is joyful and great for cities.

This is plain old, cars are unsafe, at any speed.

As e-bike crashes send an increasing number of people to the hospital, cities search for solutions Cities look to registration, regulation and infrastructure improvement to cut number of e-bike injuries and deaths

β€œWhen we think about e-bike crashes and deaths related to e-bikes, the vast majority are cars and trucks killing people on e-bikes as opposed to people on e-bikes injuring somebody else”

I lol’ed.

The seeds started 30+ years ago. Before phones, before the internet, and before the current conservative movement. It’s a backlash to how our society has been atomized vs the cause of the Incel trash. Bowling alone indeed.

But I also lol’ed.

That thing where your kid is also into Eurodance and they tell you about a show and you listen to some and are all like "DAMMIT! I WANT TO GO TO THAT!!" But they are, so you don't want to be "ugh, my dad is at the show..."

Anyway, Joost Klien is in town...

I’ve read, commmissioned or been part of many studies like this one, and the results are ALWAYS the same β€” low density suburban development is incredibly expensive for everyone, and doesn’t come close to paying its own way. It needs to be heavily subsidized by denser, mixed-use areas.

Sound fair?
