The Thousand's of Women Who Are Experiencing Homelessness Need Action, Not Words - Simon Communities in Ireland As we mark International Women’s Day 2026, our celebration of women’s achievements must be grounded in honesty about who is being left behind.

Our celebration of women this #IWD26 must be grounded in honesty about who is being left behind.

In Ireland and across the EU, homelessness is affecting women in often unseen ways.

Black and white photo of a child’s toy bunny sits scattered amongst other toys. Yellow text overlays the image reading: 16,734 People in emergency homeless accommodation.

16,734 people were living in emergency accommodation in December 2025, including 5,188 children 📉

While any reduction in homelessness is welcome, it must be sustained, continuous and on a larger scale. There are serious concerns that numbers are set to rise again in the coming months.
