A nice reminder from Ember, using British data. Wind and solar are complementary. Our system works best when you have both, each calling on their own strengths in terms of generation patterns.
If either struggles to grow like it should, we end up with a more expensive, slower fossil phase-out
Some good news.
Going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Remember: Trump promised to halve electricity bills in his first year in office.
Not even remotely close.
Graph showing: Monthly sales of new passenger cars: China (Source: https://robbieandrew.github.io/carsales/?lang=en&freq=monthly&type=relative&sort=bev-share&country=South+Korea%2CChina)
China's sales of BEVs bounced back in March, following the normal Q1 pattern. Various factors drive this pattern:
▸End-of-year employee bonuses
▸End-of-year push to get inventory sols
▸Start-of-year policy changes
▸Major holidays in Jan/Feb

Thursday morning econ data: Inflation up, income down and consumer spending soft in February (and that's *before* the impact of the war). And GDP was even weaker at the end of last year than previously known. #NumbersDay #EconSky
"China’s long-term focus on electrification is making it more resilient to energy price shocks, according to Lombard Odier."

Clean energy candidates didn't win the presidency/VP in the Salt River election, but with two flips, they now control the 14-seat board 8-6 (❌=Turning Point endorsement ✅=clean energy candidate)
Spoiler alert: it will be long lasting.
The worst sort of clickbait.
This is the correct headline.
Full endorse.
One year on from "Liberation Day," Trump’s tariffs have altered supply chains — just not in the way he envisioned.

Cool new feature.
A thread -- which world leaders are calling for a shift to clean energy as a security investment in light of Iran War?
First up, French President Macron: "...everything we do to more toward the transition is also about reducing our dependence.." (1/x)

The war that’s not a war but it’s such an expensive non-war, they have to find ways to pay for it. Okay.
The grift is unreal.
go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred million dollars
Another completely predictable outcome of the attack on Iran that appears to have no consideration leading up the attacks.
This is the most interesting thing I’ve learned from you @jigarshahdc.bsky.social! 😉
I wonder German industry is fairing right now with LNG through the roof?
I would encourage her to read the recent report out of the UK highlighting the fact that a transition to net zero is cheaper than ONE fossil fuel crisis. Maybe not a direct comparison for Germany, but Germany has really not shown any leadership recently on this front.
The real story… under any other president this would be jail time…
Used EVs 1- to 5 years old are now less expensive than used fossil fuel powered cars of the same age. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋
New from us: how Pakistan's solar boom is dampening the impact of the Hormuz crisis on the country. Solar power allowed LNG&diesel imports to fall after the previous gas crisis in 2021-22, with the solar boom set to avoid $7bn in fossil fuel import costs this year.
great tech breakthrough on charging
But man are US automakers totally cooked. Pulling back at the worst possible time.
