Two weeks after wearing this outfit, I met this brilliant artist, Robert Simmons, a week before he revealed this piece. When I showed him this photo he was blown away. Sometimes the universe speaks to us, we just need to listen.
My son put me and my Fuji in a Mad Hatter tea party background after seeing me in this outfit. I think I'll have this one framed.
Bent Maps
You have tried
to shrink us
Time
and time again
400 years later
you still don't realize
that we will rise
That we are wider
than your boundaries
We are louder
than your fear and
the Bent Maps
this court has approved
Forgetting
that silenced people
don't fade
they erupt.

When I escape
Breathe
I return
Stronger.

This is just around the corner. Please save the date to your calendar. This will be an exciting visit with two outstanding poets, Terra Oliveira and Valdez Hill.
I am grateful
for the poetry
that fills my mind
Flows from my fingers
and paints pictures
inside my heart.
Run fast! 😂
I Can't Breathe
We walk
With our lungs
On high alert,
Watching
To see who else
Gets choked by
The system
That pretends
We are free.
Yet different
Shades
Continue to
experience
the same
Suffocation.

Two of my poems were selected for Shattered Reflections, an honor I am still soaking in. My copy arrived and with it, a reminder that words matter. Thank you, 300 South Media Group, NY.
Who else, like me, finds ideas for poetry or full poems popping in their head in the middle of night? I'm constantly writing in the dark or jotting ideas into the notepad on my phone.
Her dreadlocks flow
free and untamed,
a crown
grown from storm
and sun, and the history
living inside each loc.
Regal in her walk
like a lioness
glowing
beneath the pride
of the ancestors.
She is beauty.
She is her blackness.
She is strength.
