Today was a triumph for Portland’s working class and our shared struggle to get ICE out of our community. Thousands of Portland workers, mobilized by their unions in conjunction with Portland DSA and Portland Jobs with Justice, rallied and marched today in direct opposition to the federal government’s racist campaign of terror against immigrants in Portland. At the same time, we are outraged — but not surprised — at the federal government’s response to our unity: Without provocation, federal officers attacked thousands of union members, families with children, and community members with chemical agents, some shooting down from the top of the ICE building. Here’s what is clear: The federal government fears organized workers. From the streets to the workplace, we will fight ICE.
