To me, every edition is filled with great stories. However, it was in 2019 when Philippe Gilbert won. I remember watching it at my parents' home with my wife and brother; it was a lovely family moment. 😊 We were cheering for Zdeněk Štybar, obviously... 😉

Thank you so much. I know about some of them and their activities on the local level, but - to be honest - I didn't know Hubert Opperman.

Thank you. Can we find any examples of professional road cyclists in the last few years who were in elective positions on the lists and, ultimately, were elected (e.g. in general elections)? I recall only Jozef Regec, who was a member of the Czech Senate (but the two-round system is used here)...

And what were their political parties? I remember this kind of activity by Colbrelli (Forza Italia) or Mancebo (Vox)... However, in many cases, it is just a way to support the parties and not to really run for the office.

There is only one possible answer - Chicago Blackhawks. I have been a fan for over 25 years (a few years longer than I have been following cycling 😮). This season is much better than the previous two or three, and they are playing really well (excluding the last two games).

Russia and Rwanda. Two countries annexing their neighbours. One is banned by the UCI, one gets a World Championships.

Lewis Mudge of Human Rights Watch asks what the difference is.

The UCI states that it and sport should be apolitical but has handed out gongs and championships to dictators and repressive regimes. I can't think of a single thing Lappartient has done to boost elite racing. His UCI presidency has essentially been a way to further his career rather than the sport

Former IPT manager Rik Verbrugge says team should change name. It could work in terms of not attracting protest. But it’d be superficial. Not sure if team owner Adams would want to, and he’s a very political figure, eg close to Netanyahu and been cultivating links with the far right in Europe…
