the vibe i usually get from people that work in that side of the industry tends to be that the bigger companies have downsized on anything that seems redundant even if not

staffing agencies for microsoft/meta/amazon/nintendo/etc

when a big consumer-facing web platform says "they won't do THAT for income" generally what will either happen is that they will run out of money (cohost) or they will inevitably do it anyway (too many companies to count)

remembering this bit from the original Google whitepaper from 1998

that being said it also makes sense b/c they have basically no income other than private investors and are just bleeding cash constantly

that is actually pretty low for a social media company

apparently bsky has like only 30 employees and im like Ahhhh Okay

i don't think you can definitively pin the tail on on the donkey and claim that "vibe coding caused a service outage" but between this and whatever is happening at github i think tech companies are really not investing in their SREs

almost no one using bsky cares that atproto is technically decentralized, especially b/c in practice it really is not
