Oh absolutely! This was a colossal *collective* failure for the principles of disarmament and joint security.

Rare career opportunity!

The last three Diversity Questionnaires I've filled in as a performer had hugely detailed sections on race and gender and not a single question on educational background. So I suspect we haven't the first clue how educational privilege actually works in our sector.
Clue would appear to have been in the name. Of course there are kids on bursaries in private schools, but they do - rather by definition - have access to the facilities and opportunities provided by said schools.
The thing I find baffling about current politics (compared to the 1980s/1990s) is less that I don't want to vote for any of the parties, and more that none of the parties (except perhaps the Greens) actually seems to want my vote.
Introvert reaction: Death holds no fear after weeks trapped aboard a vessel enduring organised fun.
Also, the ol’ ‘start and then delete the fist chapter/scene’ is remarkably effective much of the time…
She’s fabulous. Sadly still lots unrecorded.
(Also album cover by my eldest…)
We’re trying…!
And now to Hackney for Mozart
I think one of the most dangerous things Jefferson & Co did was suggest that rights came from God, rather than being a brittle but glorious product of a well-constituted and scrupulously well-run political body.

I'm starting a slow listening club on my Substack. It's an invitation to come offline & listen instead.
To explain why, this is why classical music is so important to me, and why I think slow, deep, engaged listening is such a powerful thing.

You can rest assured of that.
Hierusalem. Absolutely glorious piece. With the BBC Concert Orchestra and Olivia Carrell. Plus the Violin Concerto with Charlie Lovell-Jones.
I did always enjoy that one, though to be scrupulously fair I think he’s quoting the Church Fathers rather than opining himself…
Oxford looking rather gorgeous today - here to rehearse with the wonderful singers of Merton College Choir prior to tomorrow’s Dyson recording. 😃

It’s no secret that it’s hard to make it as a conductor or director in opera. But why is the career so difficult?
I’m running a survey to understand how conductors & directors navigate the field—and what could make it better.
Comment “survey” & I’ll send you the link when available!

Mackerras restored the third towards the end of his life (“if I keel over now, I don’t think anybody will blame Mahler”)
And if you haven't listened yet, why not spend your morning chores/gym class/gardening session with all three episodes?
Let me take you on this absolute JOYRIDE.
