There is a reason Unions became a thing. It's the same reasons they are still a thing.
Unions work.
They are not easy. They are rarely perfect. But they give workers power and options that they don't otherwise have, and that's a good thing.

Posts by Ubisoft Workers of Canada: Halifax
While this is frustrating, we do want to wish the new team the best of luck. Picking up an existing game is tough, especially when the original team is gone.
We hope players will be patient as things get going and that they get to experience the features we thought would never see the light of day.
#Ubisoft tells the AC Rebellion community that Live Ops continues with a new team in Paris.
Work that was being done by #Halifax didn’t disappear, it moved.
When a studio unionizes and the work relocates elsewhere, it deserves scrutiny.

Congrats to the folks at Heart Machine on having their union recognized!

People will always find excuses not to #Unionize:
- Business is down, unionizing could be risky.
- Things are great, why bother unionizing?
The truth is unionizing is simply about workers supporting workers and ensuring they have a say in what happens next. And that's good anytime.

Sometimes the fight for workers' rights involves a little rebellion.

We love Kira! She's great.

Responses to the We’re Done Playing Petition responses are often brutal. The layoffs game developers experience are shocking, callous, and wreak havoc on their lives, and the lives of the people closest to them.

AI is changing our industry. Game development has always been on the cutting edge, and this moment is no different. What Game Developers want is a voice in how that evolution unfolds.

SPEAK UP! Rally for Arts, Heritage & Culture this Wednesday across #NovaScotia.
The arts are central to what we do. For many of us, it’s why we got into #GameDev to begin with.
While we fight for fair treatment, we must also stand up for the future of our craft.

Thank you to CUPE Local 3912 (Dalhousie University) for your support and solidarity.
The members of Ubisoft Halifax were, and continue to be, proud of our work with Dalhousie, including the co-op program from which so many great up-and-coming devs joined us.

“Disciplined workforce management” and “voluntary departures” are corporate phrases.
Sustainable studios require stability, predictability, and long-term planning.
That takes effective leadership, not just headcount adjustments.

Companies keep shuttering studios, citing “cost optimization” and a “shifting landscape.”
The landscape is always shifting. The solution isn’t new: let people make games they care about.
Scale shouldn’t mean safer bets. It should mean freedom to explore.

The people in Toronto are talented. They carried major franchises, codev mandates, narrative, performance capture, and core systems. This isn’t about their work.
If the “robust support” is real, we hope Ubisoft honours it without delay.
Toronto, you deserve transparency and respect. #Solidarity
40 workers at #Ubisoft #Toronto have been laid off.
“This decision was not taken lightly.”
“It is not a reflection of those affected.”
“Our priority is to provide support with comprehensive severance.”
We’ve heard this before.
That’s almost word-for-word what we were told at Ubisoft Halifax.
While we keep doing the steady work, we’re also paying attention to what’s happening elsewhere in the industry:
Former Rockstar workers continue to face uncertainty while pursuing fair treatment. Talking about unionizing shouldn't be a risk your career.

No dramatic update today.
Just the ongoing, persistent, slightly stubborn work of solidarity.
Nos alliés de @stjv.fr seront avec IGN plus tard aujourd’hui pour partager leur expérience et répondre à vos questions.

Executives speak of “sustainable growth.”
Workers are asking for sustainable studios: predictable leadership, stable teams, and long-term planning.
Stability isn’t the opposite of growth. It’s the foundation for it.

If this is what “open and constructive dialogue” looks like, it may be time to listen more closely.
When 1,200 workers strike, they’re not unclear, they’re communicating.

Thank you to BGS Montreal, @videogameworkers.bsky.social, and #GWU for standing with us at #Ubisoft Montreal.
Reconnecting with colleagues and sharing our story reminded us why this matters.
We’ll keep going until fair treatment is secured.

What’s that?! Solidarity from our friends in Montreal?
On vous aime et on vous apprécie énormément. ❤️

Remember when Ubisoft got a bunch of Tencent money, bought a studio off Amazon, and then closed one of their existing studios a month later?
We remember.
I imagine that generations of Ubisoft developers are gesticulating in an extremely French way at this moment
One thing you learn quickly when you unionize:it’s never just you and your coworkers.
It’s workers supporting workers, across studios and borders.
#solidarity
I just wrote letters as part of this campaign and it was very easy and straightforward! If you're mad about the closure of Ubisoft Halifax and the greater treatment of Ubisoft workers and want to help, I'd encourage you to do the same!
We’re more used to patch notes than Parliament Hill,
but solidarity is #solidarity. ✊
Please help! We haven’t stopped making games.
We’ve just stopped getting paid for it.
