I hadn't fully thought on it at the time (I was planning my wedding) but now looking back with more context, it all feels so strange. Now we see the political landscape around us and the rise of conservatism. No more playing dumb as a joke for me. I worked hard for my intelligence.

Some words I had for my people today: Focus on what you can control, not on things you cannot control. Continue to be a safe haven for the folk. They want you to be scared. To role over. But now your life, and your devotion to the Kindred, becomes an act of defiance against inhumanity.

Kind of wild to think about how anti-intellectualism is very much on the rise and had been for a few years now in the U.S. It makes the bimbo trend on tiktok from a few years back feel a lot more insidious. Especially because it was followed shortly after by the rise of cottagecore and trad wife.
