we got absolutely slammed by the blizzard here in New Bedford! 37 inches total. My class is canceled tomorrow and I doubt we’ll be getting out of the neighborhood anytime soon! This is absolutely the worst storm I’ve ever experienced!

Our son is now 14 months old and he is a handful! Some days, especially since winter started, have been tough, but looking forward to more warm days ahead.
I left my role at the Women's Fund as it wasn't the right fit for my personal or professional goals. I started consulting part-time back at Rutgers Education & Employment Research Center. I'm enjoying part-time work coupled with part-time stay-at-home parenting!
Signed back in for the first time in a long time! Interested in reconnecting with #sociologists and other academics as I enter my second semester teaching SOC 101 at my local community college. A lot has changed since I last posted on here!
Held my first class of the semester last night and WOW did it feel amazing to get to teach in person for the first time. It’s a small class, just 6/8 students showed up but of them, 4 were deeply engaged. I can’t wait to get to work with them over the next 12 weeks!!
I’m currently working on a facilitators’ guide for a workshop on writing emails or letters to local elected officials. It’ll be adaptable to any group and I’m happy to share the resource when it’s done. I’m open to ideas or resources you might have for making it impactful for participants!
Being a mom is both the hardest and best thing I’ve ever experienced.
Zuck and his cronies make clear how easy it is for privileged men to cosplay as feminists while promoting patriarchy and harboring sexist views.
"The New Segregationists" is a more accurate headline.
You could go through nearly this entire article replacing "anti-DEI" with "segregationist," and it would work.
Homogeneity is the opposite of diversity, which is what they aim for.

Pleased to see this published in open-access Socius! Inspired by work in psychology on sexual fluidity, Andy and I propose "situational fluidity" to explain the process by which people flexibly adjust the use of multiple labels. @asanews.bsky.social #sociology journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
This is the most brainfried corporate gay thing I've ever seen.
This is the personification of a Rayetheon pride float
Still looking for resources for my SOC 101 syllabus!
The best thing to come out of my grad school experience was meeting my best friend soul mate. She left yesterday after spending about a week with us and using her doula skills to support us. I am so lucky to have a best friend like her.
It’s for the intro to sociology class I’m teaching this spring! Looking for peer reviewed articles to accompany the chapters I’m assigning from an OER textbook.
Calling all sociologist friends! I’m looking for recommendations of peer reviewed articles for the following topics:
1. Poverty/SES
2. Stratification
3. Contemporary sociological theory
4. Capitalism and the economy
5. Authority and the state
Bonus points if it’s open access!
What are your favorite peer reviewed journal articles centering class identity/poverty/Socioeconomic status?! Also interested in articles that look at stratification. I’m trying to pair at least 1 peer reviewed article with each chapter I’m assigning from an OER textbook for my intro to SOC class.
We're ending the year as we hope to begin the next: by centering joy, flourishing, and human connection. First up in our end-of-year readings is "Transgender Joy: Flipping the Script of Marginality" by @laurel-westbrook.bsky.social and stef m. shuster: tinyurl.com/featransjoy
New years goals:
1. Walk more: 5-6 walks per week
2. Do more tarot: my daily morning spread
3. Listen to my horoscope every week
4. Prioritize health and wellness.
5. Continue to accept help from others.
6. Bake more bread and other treats.
7. Regularly cook nourishing meals for my family.
Still working on putting together my 101 syllabus and looking for recommendations! It’s been a while since I’ve taught the class (2018 😮) and I’ve also been working in primarily alt-academic settings since 2021. What are some of your favorite readings to assign in sociology 101?!
