Getting recruited for undergrad programs while on the academic job market is a unique form of psychological warfare. I’m not applying for a BA, I’m applying for teaching jobs and postdocs, my people.

A bit late in the game, I would say.

My teaching relies heavily on this. My students and I have been discussing how stories help us understand ideas and concepts, whether we are learning them or explaining them.

Whenever I hear the sound of migrating geese, I freeze and look up, waiting for that sweeping V formation to cut across the sky. When they pass above me, I give them a proper salute 🫡

We’ve reached that point in winter where snow means it’s actually getting warmer.

I don’t know about where you are, but here the snow is going in reverse. Ground to sky. Physics is clearly on vacation.

Forever impressed by how catchy Mega City Four’s “Terribly Sorry, Bob” is.

I’m glad to report that I was accepted at the 2026 SECOLAS Conference (Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies) in Las Vegas, NV. I’m presenting my research on urban informality and the uneven provision of public services in Northeast Brazil after 1970.

I hope to catch up with some of you!
