I'm going to start this off by saying the last person who was in here working on these really didn't know what they were doing. The more I dig into them the worse it gets ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Decided to take a look at the GRID gridcase 1530 machines that I picked up Saturday. This one is going to take me for a long ride...

I didn't walk away empty-handed! Shame the screen is broken on one of these, but that's not going to be easy to find. It's okay though because I have an LCD grid that is missing half of its parts but works

This neat little machine was on the free table. Didn't need any of it though so I left it

Unfortunately, this will be one of those machines that will forever remain a sleeping dog. the F82C425 is bad, it actually burned my finger, and i can see a slight dome to the chip. The chip is unobtanium so that is the end of the road for this one folks. Such a shame. Cant save them all.

I gave it a good shot! Found two open traces so far

Yeah, this is an issue. Pair of blind vias are open, and go to inner traces of unknown origin. Only fix for this is to dremel the PCB and get down to the trace to find out where it goes. Ugh... Is it worth it? I don't know.

Time to take a look at another machine. Currently cleaning it up. Compaq LTE 286. I have heard these are a nightmare with all entropy related age threat models on the table

My PCBs finally came in... Wow, I didn't realize how BIG this thing was going to be.

Honestly at this point, it was probably the #1 most sold case in the very late 90s into the early 00s. They were everywhere back then

I am tired of getting questioned about everything I do with equipment I own. Blocked.

It does and it's actively in use.

Yeah the power supply was all original. It didn't see a whole lot of use

"Bridge" the gap between old-world and modern-world. As in, i have old XT or slightly newer machines i need to backup files on, or otherwise, i can shuffle it off to this machine, which can touch a modern fileserver for archival. Also making disks.

I'm actually surprised this one has lasted as long as it has considering this is right square in the middle of the plague era

There... Fresh caps. Hopefully this solves our problem. You're probably asking why I bother to recap an ATX power supply. It's because this old stuff is 5 volt dominant modern stuff is 12 volt dominant and sometimes they aren't compatible
