Bottoms had a bad debate. Duncan is starting to attack her and stories are dropping that there is investigative reporting coming out about her mayor tenure and corruption.

I am fundraising for my school board campaign & have “call time.” I spent today’s session trying to remember this scene from The Wire & then watching it.. which feels very meta.

As someone who grew up as a New England Catholic, most of the families who still practice and have photos of the Pope on their wall are the ones who voted for Trump.

Would love to be a fly on the wall…

I did not get the sense they all did. There is huge support for school choice in the Black Democratic community so an important audience, nonetheless.

They get a question from APS Board chair about unfunded mandates.

Duncan said he would veto unfunded mandates.

State Senator asks about mental health.

Brown: stop criminalizing metal health

Bottoms: grateful she could get help as an adult with ADHD.

Charter school question asked. Only Jackson took it. He said that charter schools need their own budget for the public to understand (may not have all details correct).

Duncan asks how you can more parental involvement, can state do something?

My answer: structure helps parents volunteer. Give training/incentives to create proper PTOs & PTAs.

Thurmond says that we have plenty of money. We just lack priorities.

Sounds familiar.

A lot of talk about the big surplus we have & using it for education.

The rest of the candidates are meh on casinos.

Wondering how the mandate to start K lines up against bills to allow redshirting?

Moderator asks about graduation rates vs. reading levels at 3rd grade and the discrepancy.

Don’t think the candidates get the question. Bottoms says the math does not math. Thurmond says we have to stop talking about failing schools.

Brown: we need to expand Medicaid, he will visit as many schools in state as possible in first 100 days.

Bottoms: Has to meet constitutional obligation to fund education, and make K mandatory. Casino gambling in this state can fund it. Has a plan on her website.

2 priorities: Thurmond says priority is improving QBE. He will be advocate for teachers.

Jackson: Protect educators to retirement, raise salaries, retain more. Bring kids in age 2.

Duncan: The people who also follow the reading data is the prisons. Can get changes done to QBE.

Duncan is only one who mentions QBE in remarks.

Thurmond says he will be the only superintendent ever elected.

62% or GA’s 3rd graders are not reading at level.

It is 33% in DeKalb County.

Also talk about teacher retention and QBE (big issue for me).

Jason Esteves is not here. I heard it is because his family is on school break. There was kind of a statement on candidates making it a priority to show up.

I hear it as Mass. I think because I live elsewhere, MA is more recognizable. Also, people from Georgia don’t shorten the name.

I was somewhat grateful my kid wasn’t into sports like that… but he is into music and his instructors said he is a quick learner and we should lean in. I am finding that adds up almost as quickly. A number of music schools have created “travel bands” to compete with the sports experience, too.

This story needs a correction. Literacy coaches will NOT be funded through QBE.

It definitely made me share the advice in the original post- a bad experience is a reflection of the provider and not all mammograms.

I had a tech a few years ago twist me very hard and when I complained, was rude and half-assed my other side. I had bruises. I complained to my dr when my mammogram came back incomplete. I was contacted by patient safety.

Luckily, it was not my first one and had the choice to go somewhere else.
