A quick heads‑up: we’re approaching max capacity!
If you’ve been thinking of joining, now is the time to act. Once we reach it, we won’t be able to accept new memberships.
We’d love to have you but please don’t leave it too late and face disappointment!

My friend who runs an award-winning bookshop has probed the question: readers prefer paperback novels. So why are there so many goddamn hardback releases?
Hello.
I just found out that a death metal band has covered John Cage’s 4’33”, and now I need you lot to know that a death metal band has covered John Cage’s 4’33”.

These look fun, and at least the first book is on sale on Kindle in the UK as well. I've grabbed it and will read it soon.
Yeah, this would totally work on me.
As the father of a middle schooler I have seen the rebellion against AI forming there — even using “that’s AI, bro,” not indicating something is literally AI, but that something is metaphorically so — it’s sus, it’s bullshit, it’s bad weird

I've really enjoyed this series so far, so 99p is a steal! My review: lordofthemoon.com/bookreviews/...
Is this an unpopular opinion? I attend a lot of programme at the cons I go to, and generally agree that single talks are often better than panels. I'd love a few TED-style sessions. Probably too late for @satellitecons.bsky.social, but how about it @eastercon2027.org?
Apparently Vogue magazine is suing a dog-fashion magazine called Dogue: people.com/vogue-publis...
Dogue has a circulation of < 100 and is free online. Also, it's about dogs. Having read the latest issue, it's also absolutely adorable. I'm happy to help Streisand this nonsense: thedoguemagazine.com
If in doubt, double-check (of course, late on the Thursday before a bank holiday isn't the best time, but hopefully you can check next week).

Scotland is already generating huge amounts of cheap, clean, green renewable electricity. It's cheap to generate, but it's not cheap to consume because of the way the UK Government chooses to regulate energy prices. They need to break the link between electricity and the international gas price. 5/6
This will be so much fun.
Ooh, I really enjoyed Cheddar Luck Next Time (my review: lordofthemoon.com/bookreviews/...), so this is exciting news!

NEW: We often hear that Scotland’s more progressive income tax is “driving people out the country.”
New HMRC data shows the opposite. Far more taxpayers are moving to Scotland than leaving it.
Let’s look at the data 🧵
I've really enjoyed seeing some of George's tricks. Even over Zoom, they're great.
The proposed new Subway operating hours to be introduced once UTO in operation are: Day Opening Time Closing Time Difference in Hours Monday – Thursday 06:30 23:30 No change. Friday – Saturday 06:30 00:30 Approximately 1 hour later than current closing time. Sunday 06:30 23:30 Approximately 3.5 hours earlier opening and 5.5 hours later closing than current schedule.
Glasgow!
IT'S HAPPENING!
Two red armchairs sit on either side of a small black round table, with a dark stool underneath it. Each chair has a small blue plush toy placed on the seat. one is the planet Neptune on the left and the other is the planet Uranus. The setting appears to be an indoor lounge area with tiled flooring and a railing in the background.
Reminder to all planning your travels that our hotel block and booking is open.
Some of the committee went for a visit last week and really enjoyed the spaces and facilities: Uri and Nep found the seating to their liking.
