Yet another example that so much tech is someone trying to recreate a mother/wife/girlfriend. I think I'd find this so much more compelling if any of these "mundane tasks" put the perspective of caregivers and carers first. So many of the most important things in life are very mundane.

TSConfigs aren't that hard.

They're basically just 2 if/else statements in a trenchcoat.

The tech bro fascination with eugenics is so on brand. The idea that you could make accurate, actionable predictions from individual genotypes (with all their complex, non-linear interactions) from averaged, linearly modeled population-level genomic statistics is just another big data fantasy

Companies are so surveillance-pilled and data hungry that they are trying to get everyone to believe that one of the worst aspects of modern technology—that you are constantly surveilled—is now a thing you should wholeheartedly embrace and integrate into every aspect of your existence.

Oooh a quiz! Let's all do this to get to know each other better:

Name: Stop
Birthday: Giving
City: Out
First pet’s name: Your
Mother’s maiden name: Personal
First car: Information.
Favorite color. Damn!

Some of y'all are a hacker's dream. 😂 These questionnaires got you in a chokehold.

FOMO is not a strategy End of year reflections on how people are using genAI at work

"Nothing about AI is inevitable — and generative AI is just a series of tools. If the person who created the spanner was insistent that spanners had to be attached to everything, life would have gotten boring pretty quickly." buttondown.com/justenoughin... Hi, so I've spent the past almost-decade studying research uses of public social media data, like e.g. ML researchers using content from Twitter, Reddit, and Mastodon.

Anyway, buckle up this is about to be a VERY long thread with lots of thoughts and links to papers. 🧵

Setting to require alt text on images in Bluesky application

This is a friendly reminder to enable the setting that forces you to supply an alt text when you attach an image.

Lets all do our bit to make this place as accessible as possible! 🙂

If you’re building a website or app from scratch, it’s so much cheaper and much less stressful if you add in accessibility from the start.

I’m currently trying to retrofit accessibility features and it’s taken a week to do something that could’ve taken less than a day if done at the start

One thing I hope we can do as Bluesky gets larger is be less tolerant of the resistance grifters who will try to hack the platform for engagement and growth without any interest in adding anything substantive or meaningful

It’s a different kind of troll.

Nightsky | hctr.dev See live conversations from all over Bluesky as a dynamic night sky

I made a thing!

I was playing around with the AT protocol and as a little experiment I made a website that visualises activity around Bluesky: nightsky.hctr.dev

It listens to all new posts and shows them as little stars across a night sky 🌃

Every star is someone, somewhere, posting something

I spoke with three members of the Luddite Club, a group of teenagers who avoid digital devices and social media.

There's reason for hope:
