Not a bad start to the year, with last preprint out yesterday as a rapid communication in JCP, alongside preceding one getting accepted to @physrevapplied.bsky.social the very same day! For anyone in Rome for S3IC 2026 next week, Dr Smith’s got a special treat: s3ic2026.exordo.com/programme/pr...

Wow, the quant-ph arXiv overflow today is really something.

Glad my last PhD related preprint escaped the "noise" (pun intended) by being up earlier this week. Of course I can't resist plugging it again: scirate.com/arxiv/2510.0...

We show incoherent control (via PMP) of noisy radical-pair spins.

This is "framable poster" worthy.

Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Béla Tarr's screenwriting partner, what a day for the cineastes among us!

Nobel prize for physics goes to physics this year

After stretching a bit last year, this year the Nobel committee was determined to give the prize to the physicsiest physics that ever physicsed.

Great to be on this list! Perhaps consider adding on my colleagues @mischawoods.bsky.social and @dodingroup.bsky.social who are not very active here at present, but could perhaps be enticed to be more so with this… 😉

Interradical motion can push magnetosensing precision towards quantum limits Magnetosensitive spin-correlated radical-pairs (SCRPs) offer a promising platform for noise-robust quantum metrology. However, unavoidable interradical interactions, such as electron-electron dipolar ...

New preprint just dropped!

Took quite a while for this one to get to the finish line, but super fulfilling to take this from an initial seed of an idea from during the early part of my PhD all the way to a concrete study.

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

Quantum computers are useful for a very limited set of questions and those questions are mostly of interest to physicists and chemists.

Still gathering my thoughts after coming back from #Helgoland2025, in a nutshell: it certainly was special. Can’t resist sharing a little sneak peak with Časlav Brukner’s priceless old “Balkan” grandma joke (but am keeping Steven Girvin’s equally entertaining “half the time” quip to myself).

Fr\"ohlich versus Bose-Einstein condensation in pumped bosonic systems Magnon condensation, which emerges in pumped bosonic systems at room temperature, continues to garner great interest for its long-lived coherence. While traditionally formulated in terms of Bose-Einst...

Latest paper is out, started as Wenhao’s masters project @dondersinst.bsky.social, then completed during his @euerasmusplus.bsky.social supported visiting studentship @lsiexeter.bsky.social. Findings challenge prevailing principles thought to underly room temperature emergence of bosonic statistics.

Roadmap on Quantum Thermodynamics The last two decades has seen quantum thermodynamics become a well established field of research in its own right. In that time, it has demonstrated a remarkably broad applicability, ranging from prov...

Caught up with new season of Black Mirror. Brilliant 1st episode, but the 2nd episode’s wildly inflated perception of a quantum computer (+Everettian multiverse), rendering one a “deus ex machina” in the literal sense, goes beyond the ludicrousness of even last season’s infamous “qomputer” episode.

1920s story: Bose was turned away by Marie Curie from training in her lab, citing past Asian colleagues' struggles with adjusting to French, without bothering to ask if he was fluent. He was. To avoid contradicting her, he simply returned some months later giving the impression he'd “learned” French

I was certainly long aware of the disappearance (often anecdotally noted as a historical curio in a lot of texts introducing the notion of a majorana particle), but am only hearing of the Venezuela story here for the first time.

And while @hyperboieva.bsky.social‬ celebrates 100 citations (a superb achievement!), I am contented and grateful for having recently reached a humble 20.

Surely again, many at my earlier stage have done better. But it warms my heart that >1 others out there find something worthwhile in my work.

It truly is! Wish Peter Weir made more films, still quite fond of his underseen last film The Way Back (2010).
